Alec Martinez and Alex Pietrangelo are 34 and 32 respectfully, and are gonna start taking steps back, and Pietrangelo has a full NMC through 5 more seasons. Pietrangelo will be 37 with a $8.8M cap hit and a full NMC.

Vegas has 2 full NMC contracts, and 6 M-NTC contracts and have traded away a lot of picks and prospects over the years, they're gonna have a hard time staying competitive unless they can develop a bunch of their 2nd round pick prospects.

My favorite thing about the current Coyotes situation is that their ECHL-affiliate now has the largest arena, followed by their AHL, followed by the NHL arena.

The NHLPA should care, but I don't know if they do. Having proper facilities for training and medical staff is fairly important for professional sports, and there's no chance that ASU built those into the facility in the way they would need. Not to mention the locker rooms and broadcast facilities won't be of a high standard. The league won't implode, but a professional sports league does need to maintain standards, and this isn't going to meet them. Hell, the whole situation between the rink they're leaving and wherever they end up next is a cluster of poor management and reflects poorly on the league too.
The deal is that the Coyotes are building the locker rooms, medical areas, etc. in an annex that is going to be attached to the arena. The arena will be ready for hockey by October but the annex won't be ready until December, so there's gonna have to be some temporary stuff for the first few months

What happens if the Blackhawks get a top two pick? The prick presumably rolls back to 2023 but did they top 1 protect it in that scenario?

If not then the Blackhawks definitely will not get a top two pick tonight because they are going to get Bedard.
from Capfriendly:

*Conditions: If Chicago wins one of the the 2022 draft lotteries and the lottery win results in the pick being top 2 overall, the pick becomes their 2023 1st round pick
looks like it is unprotected in 2023 if Chicago gets a top-2 this year.

So ASU has responded to this that the agreement says that while it is correct that the Yotes won't be able to change anything on the ice and that only ASU can, ASU intends to replace their own logo with the Yotes logo for those games.

it says that the 8 players who committed the assault "included, but are not necessarily limited to, members of the 2018 junior team".. I guess the assaults happened at some sort of golf event that Hockey Canada puts on.. I wonder if somebody could get a list of attendees / participants at that event.
There's Cal Foote's picture at the event but even then, the event was to celebrate the 2018 junior team so there would have also been friends of the junior team and friends of friends, etc. and Cal Foote's picture of the participants is just the team.

I now have a hazy memory of this happening, so I searched for news articles, and it looks like the Canes traded Johnson away because he wasn't willing to leave college for the NHL (he would join the NHL late in the season for 5 games, then become a regular in 07-08), and I assume there was some animosity between the two.
Jack Johnson finally finished his college degree (BA in general studies from University of Michigan) this past week, the day before game 2

Joe Sakic hates drafting. Avs only have a 6th and 7th this year, 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th next year, and 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th in 2024.

For this year the 1st was for Darcy Kuemper, second was Devon Toews, third was today's Georgiev deal, fourth was getting Patrik Nemeth as a rental last year (booooooo), and 5th was also part of today's Georgiev deal

Combined $5.4M/year on goaltending duo. If it works out for the next 2 years that's a lot of money saved for skaters. Also probably means development-wise, 2 years for Annunen in the AHL, 1 year as Georgiev's backup, then a decision.

For what it's worth, Evolving Hockey predicted Nichushkin's value for an 8 year contract to be a AAV of $6.2M and Dom at The Athletic predicted an 8 year contract for Nichushkin to come in at $5.5M AAV, so $6.1 isn't as absurd in that context, but still, that's a lot for a long time. here's structure and the NMC/NTC:
