TulliusCicero posted:Would be surprised if they haven't already squeezed him for everything already though. He's apparently pled the fifth to the Committee so far. But that's the rub, isn't it? In a way the live broadcasts aren't that much of a legal proceeding in that the Committee itself isn't gaining new information from it -- that's all been extracted well before the live hearings so they're legally redundant. Their impact is in disseminating information to the public, goading others into testifying, and if witnesses decide to perjure themselves live then that's just great.

BiggerBoat posted:But they have though. And they keep scheduling new poo poo based on the things they're uncovering. I mean the public, live on C-SPAN would not be revealing any new information to the J6 committee, because they learned it weeks or months ago behind closed doors. The public sessions are to inform, well, the public, via carefully drawn up questions which leave no wiggle room, not least because they have the tapes from when witnessses were questioned earlier. Whatever information they are going to get from Pat, they learned it today during today’s 8+ hour chat. We’ll get the good poo poo later in the public hearing.

Herstory Begins Now posted:Seems like they're getting desperate to find some way to derail the hearings. I can't imagine anyone alive is stupid enough to think bannon wants to help them. Susan Collins maybe, but she's not being allowed anywhere near this. Neither did Hutchinson. As far as I know everyone who has testified so far is an irredeemable ghoul, except Lady Bird and her daughter. It's even run by ghouls apart from Mr. Thompson!

Randalor posted:I think the issue is that Bannon and the other rear end in a top hat are wanting to give live depositions, rather than private ones that are taped and then requestioned in front of the committee, so it'd be impossible to know what they'll say, and with little-to-no filter. Bannon COULD be looking at his options, and a likely lengthy jail sentence for a man who gleefully threw him under the bus and decided to throw Trump under the bus first. Or he could be looking at it as an opportunity to try to discredit the Hearings and show his loyalty to his Furhur. I don't think the Committee would be willing to drop the contempt charge if he refuses to do a taped disposition. The subpoena is on their terms, not his.

Rigel posted:Nothing new really, they just tried to lay it out as clearly and unambiguously as they possibly could for the casual prime time audience, that there is no fall guy, there is no one else to blame, everyone in the world was telling Trump to call off the mob, and he made the deliberate decision to refuse. And when he finally told everyone to go home, they clearly made the case that the ONLY reason he did that was because he found out that congress was secured, the guard was coming, and that the police were starting to win the battle, so he knew that his coup attempt failed. It was then and only then that he reluctantly told everyone to go home. I don't know if it was made explicit, but the mob left the Capitol as soon as he told them to go home, only because he told them. Three hours of rioting he provably could have stopped at any time.

To be fair Cippolone didn't throw Trump under the bus until Hutchinson just about threw him under the bus. He'd be facing contempt charges with Bannon if she hadn't testified. Another reminder that Hutchinson is still a ghoul like the rest of them
