Can anyone identify this thing for me? Came up on FB marketplace and the dude isn't responding to questions and I can't find another Fender tele that matches this exact aesthetic that isn't like 5x the price.

All the information i have is already in the screenshot.

I got one of those titanium "forever" picks as a gift. I thought it was a pretty cool idea to only have one that will never wear out (as long as I don't lose it). It's a lot slower (imo) than a normal pick but I liked the bright tone I was getting from it and got used to it very quickly.

After a few weeks I noticed that my D string was pretty beat up but I didn't think much about it because the set was 3-4 months old. Threw on a new set of Elixirs and sure enough about 3 weeks later a my A and D strings are flattened out in a weird way, and a lot of the wrap on them has been scraped off. They're basically dead sounding now.

The pick itself seems to also somehow lost it's point and has some pretty noticeable wear / grooves in it now. Very weird, and a shame because I really like the thing otherwise. Anyone else have experience with picks like this? The reviews everywhere seem to be pretty universally positive.

Yeah my main guitar is already pretty beat from regular picks so I didn't care much, but it definitely added a fresh set of dings in short time. I guess I should have paid more attention to the Mohs scale in high school and realized the idea of a forever pick that doesn't destroy your strings is an impossible dream.

I've posted before about how I record little guitar videos (by request) for my friends on Facebook. A few of them (and my wife) convinced me to formalize the process and so I started a channel on YT/IG/TT where I decided my initial 'gimmick' will be top 5 metal riffs every year since I was born - I get to pick one and I have 5 or 6 metalhead friends on my "riff committee" that pick the rest. I'm about 7 years (1 per week) in, and having a blast. Trying to use it as an excuse to actually try to get better at recording/mixing/video editing, etc. instead of just noodling around and never posting anything.

Anyway someone asked me what my setup is, and I said that it was a Scarlett Solo -> Logic -> DSP Plugins (I'm a chronic minimalist so this is ideal for me) and got mocked for the Solo. I know this is A Thing in online guitar discourse, but is there an actual reason I would want to upgrade from that to something better/more expensive other than it's Babby's First Interface? My needs are simply to get a DI guitar and bass track into logic as easily as possible.

Here's my unpopular guitar string opinion for the day: the LESS you play the MORE the strings you use matter. If you play every day you're going to be changing them fairly often, whereas if you're more of a casual every-once-in-a-while player you're going to want something higher quality that can just sit on there for a year+ at a time without much fuss.

Y'all got any neat tricks or toys for muting individual strings while recording? I haven't really found any devices online that do what I want, other than an overly elaborate capo system that I'm not really sure would work with my headless anyway.

I've been using a sweatband for all open string muting, and a small polishing cloth when I need to mute the highest 2-3 strings, but I'd like to be able to mute multiple, non-consecutive strings because sometimes my recordings call for that.

I've tried rigging up small (hair) butterfly clips and tiny binder clips with foam, but they bounce around and fall off etc.

And don't tell me to just get better at playing, that's never going to happen.

Using classical thumb position is for sure best practices, but it's going to make learning chords/chord transitions more difficult and painful to start. You likely won't be able to easily correct it later if you don't start and stick with it.

You. must. decide. now.

Or just put your thumb wherever you feel comfortable like everyone else.

I get pins and needles when I’m sitting down and recording for too long, which usually causes me to switch which leg the guitar is sitting on and realize it’s easier to nail takes in a more classical position than (guitar on right leg) position.

I learn nothing from this and will start in the same position until I’m uncomfortable and realize the same exact thing during the next session.

you are allowed to post your own video, but the catch is you have to help me learn how to also make recordings that sound that good. is there like a button i press in reaper that makes it good

(Sick vid)

Well thank you, I appreciate the compliment! My process on Mac/Logic is:

* I go on Songsterr (or anywhere you can get midi/guitar pro files) download the songs, open in TuxGuitar, export to midi, open in Logic

* Edit all the riffs exactly how I want them in their individual project (I'll often play a verse from after the intro, but then the chorus from the end of the song because it's bigger or more fun or whatever). Remove all of the automation and midi events from the tracks so that everything is flat panning and volume wise and there won't be any surprises

* Paste and arrange all the riffs into a master project file, do the tempo mapping, play through everything and make sure that's the arrangement I want

* I'm using the Get Good Drums Modern Metal pack, so I merge all of the drum sections into 1 solid midi track and switch the default Logic Drummer to GGD. Often I'll have to remap a few things depending on the song, since my pack doesn't have "clap" or things like that, but it's a quick process to see what's not firing

* I usually play bass, but on this video I didn't simply because I was running out of time, so that's just straight midi, but usually I'm using Parallax by Neural DSP on my bass DI because it allows you to process Low/Mid/Highs all in one track / add distortion individually, etc. Really simple plugin

* Add my bass DI track (Parallax) and Left/Right/Center DI guitar tracks (Neural DSP Plugins, normally Petrucci nowadays), all coming from my Scarlett Solo

* This is usually Day 1 for me, and if I have time I'll start learning how to actually play the songs

* Day 2 I'll continue or start learning the songs and just sort of jam on them as much as I can to try to get the vibe down

* Day 3 I'll do a test recording of each of the songs. If they're simple/don't require many takes I'll just keep my demo take for the final. But doing the rough recordings really highlights what you DIDN'T learn or what you need to work on, so I like to do them so I know for sure what I need to spend my time practicing

* Day 4 I'll do the real recordings and any punch-ins or cleanup. EQ the guitars/bass, do as much mixing as I can before I give up because I think everything I do sounds like poo poo and then decide it's good enough

* Day 5 I rehearse for the video for about a half hour to make sure I've got everything, then my wife sets up our phones on tripods and/or a gimbal, gets the lighting right, and records everything for me (she's great)

* Day 6 I edit the video 3 times (16:9 for Facebook/YouTube, 1:1 for Instagram, 9:16 for TikTok) and depending on the timing I'll either post them or hang on to them for a few days and post

* Day 7 I start working on the next year (hopefully I'm on schedule (I'm not)).

Sorry I know that was :words: but I'm having so much fun with this new project because it's making me actually play with a purpose / keep the brain problems away. Here's a screenshot of that video's project file, for context:

Distortion definitely amplifies any dissonant / discordant sounds that you wouldn't really notice on a lower gain setting, but it could also be an intonation problem (assuming the notes you're playing are harmonious in the first place). I'd probably check that first.

I've covered some Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr. songs recently and that stuff is famously like quad+ tracked and uses a lot of power chord shapes surrounded by open strings, but it all works ... so could just be a style thing?

String gauge question because I'm too stupid to use calculators apparently, and there's so much conflicting advice online.

My main guitar is currently 6-string 26.5" to 25.5" multiscale and I play 10-52s in standard tuning. I'm getting a new main guitar (for standard tuning) and I want to drop my current one to B standard to match my 5-string bass.

Obviously I'll need a setup, but what gauge sets are a good place to start for this? I guess I really only need to figure out the top and bottom numbers.
