It always amazes me how badly Wizards manages to gently caress up a simple message on the Mastery screen basically every time. In the past things like the wrong set have been named, the current one says the nonsense "Unspent orbs from this mastery will be lost when the next set's mastery is complete."

How were you planning to win even without the Hullbreaker? They're at 28 life AND have a much better board AND are playing a deck with better late game. You lost this a long time before the clock hit 20 minutes.

MrL_JaKiri

I've been playing Azorius control with a similar build and your deck looks like it'll get eaten up basically all the time. Grindy value midrange doesn't have a good time against control, and you'd be surprised how little decking is actually a threat once the deck gets established (the only times I've decked playing it have been deliberately when I have no outs left and just do a Silver Scrutiny for (deck size + 1) to lose in style). Once they get board control, Teferi spirits means that life totals can change very quickly.

The deck usually runs lots of board wipes, so if there's a period where they're just kind of durdling around for a bit in the midgame it's usually because they're waiting for you to try to slam something dangerous (I assume that's what happened when your creatures vanished but the replay doesn't show it).

Try playing the deck a bit yourself - note that even if they didn't have a wipe in hand when you played the Seraph, they still had a good while to dig for an answer because they didn't have any life total pressure.

Isn't that an above average performance?

Yes, it is

"Stop when you reach 3 losses" is actually quite a harsh criterion. The "average player" (ie one who wins exactly 50% of the time) will end up with a 0-3, 1-3 or 2-3 record as often as not. The mean number of wins is 2.87.

3-3, the so-called "above-average"... my war chest has been completely annihilated this week, down to 5 drafts

It's not so-called, it is above average.

Remember that WOTC doesn't want you going infinite. You need 52% winrate to get >3 expected wins, but that's only a payout of 889 gems; it's 56% to get >1000 gems on average, and 68% to get >1500 gems on average. The very low payouts for 0-2 wins are likely chosen to make you feel frustrated about not getting to 3 wins and make you want to put money in.

The drafts may not be rigged, but the payouts are - don't beat yourself up about not hitting a target that's been deliberately and specifically designed to feel attainable while being out of reach for almost everyone.

Which set in current standard is the best is an interesting question to be honest.

Probably a tie between BRO and DMU, because those two together make up the majority of the Soldiers archetype at the moment - most other notable decks use a range of cards from multiple sets throughout the rotation.

This isn't a standard like a few years ago where you could make an entire top tier competitive deck out of basically only cards from a single set (ELD).

Well, there was the cycling deck from Ikoria that was both a draft archetype and somehow a reliable way to get to mythic

Let's say your chance of winning a given game is 53%, the win percentage from the previous set. The odds of you having 11 or fewer victories in 23 games is around 2/5. The way you react to very likely events is not healthy.
