This is just my recollection from the time; it might also be post-9/11 propaganda (ie, Clinton had a plan to 'get Bin Laden' and Bush hosed it up) so who knows how accurate that was. But Clinton was definitely out to get him because of the embassy bombings & the Cole.

we get the dying empire bit but not the debt jubilee bit, this sucks

No, jubilees were pretty common in general in ancient days, there are many reasons why the Roman empire weakened over time but one of the main reasons is that their aristocracy hated paying taxes and hated paying soldiers so they were always hard-pressed to defend themselves from the Germans/Bulgars/Arabs/Crusaders/Turks or whoever came knocking at the door.

did they do something weird with w-4’s in the past couple of years?

I swear I’ve heard more and more stories about surprise tax bills these last few seasons and I don’t really get how it happens because that’s all stuff that happens on the backend that you don’t really have to worry about if you get the bulk of income through payroll. My boss has zero dependents, doesn’t really get any money from investments or such, allegedly claimed nothing on his w-4 and in fact tells me he has it set up so they withhold an extra chunk per paycheck and still he ends up owing a couple grand. Considering our payroll is the same, I actually owed a bit on 1099’s this year and I still ended up slightly positive on my return it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Your boss makes far more money than you do and now has to pay taxes on it. He's flexing on you when he complains like this.

For the second part, yes, student loan debt is pretty unique in that there’s a death discharge. Most debt gets collected against whatever estate you leave (if you leave one, big loving if) but student debt evaporates when you die, because it’s fake debt

First part, also yes as long as you’re on an income based repayment plan rather than a ten year repayment plan, which most people should be, but there are edge cases

Obviously private loans are completely different and these answers don’t apply

HOWEVER! If there are co-signers on the loan (ie your parents) that discharge of debt counts as taxable income to them so they will have to pay taxes on that income.

If McMagic and his like-minded liberal friends like David Frum thought there was even the slightest chance Biden could repeat his 2012 debate performance against Paul Ryan, single-handedly turning his opponent into a laughingstock and ending a man’s career dreams, they would be demanding debates. Clamoring for them. Debates would be the single most important and decisive events of the election. Just like they were in 2016.

But they know that Biden is a dementia patient that can’t speak 10 minutes, much less 90 minutes, extemporaneously without looking like a doddering old man with no idea where he is. So, they’re now unimportant rituals we are better off without. That’s it. That’s the extent of the liberal logic here.

That's giving Biden too much credit, Paul Ryan's career ended for the same reason McCarthy and Cantor's careers did; they were to beholden to megadonors to be able to satisfy the base interest of the howling masses and so had to slink away after failing to cow the base into quietly going along with what the corporate masters wanted.
