And I'm not writing this sarcastically because I don't know the answer but I'm guessing it's never. I served in the Navy. The good Commanding Officers - and there are a few - absolutely care about their crew. Those are the officers men willingly follow into battle, simply because they don't want to let them down. I don't know the details, but it sounds to me like that C.O. was fighting for the lives of his crew. It's not like they have hundreds of ventilators onboard, nor is any Navy vessel equipped for this kind of pandemic. The incompetence was likely in his chain of command, who apparently either didn't listen to his requests or were moving too slowly. If any if this is the case, then that captain has my absolute respect for leaking to the media to try to save his people. gently caress Trump.

I'd like to see statistics from other locales to see breakdown by race and SES.

Epidemiologists are able to predict life expectancy for specific neighborhoods for a reason. Being poor subjects you to worse food, higher stress levels, more crime, more workplace accidents, a lack of healthcare, etc. We're absolutely going to see higher rates of infection and death among certain socio economic groups. Like, the cortisol levels between rich people and poor are like night and day despite the widely accepted argument that people in positions of authority have more stressful jobs.
