That's like a bit from an early 00's teen movie:
Grandma: "well Terry I know how you like those space movies so I got you a special gift!"
Terry: "Oh boy!" *tears open gift wrap, stops in confused horror*
Mother: "Isn't that lovely, thank your granny."
Terry:*holding back tears and rage for he's a trekkie you see* "t-thank you granny"

Later as Grandma is leaving
Grandma: "And Luke Skywalker could take Capt. Kirk in a fight, any day, anytime!"

If you regret not splurging on a pointless 386 handheld the last time it was available, it is back in stock now with around 100 available. How long will they keep making these? Who knows!

I guess these are just resellers since there's two stores selling the same gadgets, I hope someone is able to relay back to the designers how desperately I want a 486 with soundblaster support.
I'd settle for a FPGA laptop though, something like that 8088 book but with a Cyclone V fpga that could run all the MiSTer cores!

(i have now ordered both of these btw)

Are they real 386s? I didn't think anyone still made those even for industrial poo poo.

Tarkus
Aug 27, 2000

fuuuck, i so want both of those retro devices but I have no application for them and I can only see the fact that I could buy a cheap modern laptop for the same price.

edit: On second thought, the 386 one might make a neat HMI for something. hmmm

In the ad it says they were removed from equipment and the rest is new parts. I do believe they still make older CPUs for industrial boards still, like 8088s and 80186's, not sure about 386's.

Wait. 386s can't run Windows 95. 486s barely can. What is this madness?

It can run it (poorly) with enough RAM like 8 or 12 megs, I did it when win95 came out and installed it on my old computer.

This guy seems to have it running though it runs better than my 386 did.

That is too high a price for me but the day they figure out how to manufacture a tiny PC XT scale model with working diskettes* I'm all over this.

Pretty wild that it's actually hardware, despite the name I figured it was just an emulator slapped on on arm system or something like that

The new x68000 minis have that, you can a micro SD card in a tiny floppy disk box and put it in the tiny computer's floppy drive.

I'm not sure what you can do other than google image search the images (assuming they're 100% identical) or search alibaba/aliexpress and hope the listing used similar keywords.

If they took their own photos and wrote their own description that doesn't match what appears on the alibaba/aliexpress listings at all, I'm not sure there would be any good way to detect that easily.

It would be nice if there was a way to automate checking that but I'm not sure that would be that practical.

Thanks again to the goon (flashy_mcflash?) who recommended those soft, lightweight blankets/throws. Incredibly soft and comfortable. One of my best Ali purchases!
I bought one from the second vendor and it's true - these are great blankets. Perfect for summer sleeping.

This listing seems to have something similar, but yeah, it would be nice if posters would link to the specific shop they bought from, so we get a known-good result.

Unless you’re willing to load sketchy software to program the keys, try to stick with keypads that support QMK or VIA.

I have this one which was detected automatically when you go to caniusevia.com and can be programmed in-browser.

I can vouch that a good option in particular for streaming is using https://github.com/nhielost/obs-midi-mg/releases in combination with a midi controller like https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802471495148.html
