Got into the office at 7:30 in the morning, bought the SSD and Imperial Shuttle an hour later. Highlight of my day. I have no idea where I'll put it, though. I might just build it on my bed and leave it there and sleep on the floor, as I don't have any shelves that are four freakin' feet long.

Have an of you successfully hung or mounted your sets from walls or ceilings?

Chapters/Indigo had a 20% off sale, so I picked up The Mines of Moria and Queen Anne's Revenge -- now to find shelf space for them. Before checking out, I noticed that the minifigs were on sale too. Figured "eh, why not" and picked up three of each series 6/7/8. Genie, skater girl, and wind-up robot. Not bad, not bad. Then I get to Series 7: first one, space marine, score! 2nd one: hippie :2bong: 3rd one: second space marine :hellyeah: I think when series 9 comes out I might just buy one of the boxes on Amazon because these little guys are so drat cool.

Heads up Canadians, Chapters/Indigo is doing a one-day 20% off sale on select sets. Some LotR, Creator, Duplo, Games, City, and Star Wars sets. Shelob Attacks is on sale for 20 bucks, and it's out of stock on the Lego Shop site, if anyone is looking to grab that sweet spider.

My grandmother gave me $1000 this year for Christmas. I told my family I was putting it into savings but I just spent every last penny on Lego. Highlights of what I've got coming: Grand Emporium, Fire Brigade, City Hall, Pet Shop, City Airport, Police Station, Log Cabin and Apple Tree House.

I've never felt so dirty in my entire life.

(Also, I'm thirty years old, four days into my first real attempt at sobriety and I desperately need a distraction that isn't booze. This counts right?)

legogoons.txt

Good choices on the sets, the big modular sets are wonderful display pieces, especially if you add twenty year old Transformers stomping on the roofs.

EDIT: man, Lego vs booze.... that's difficult. Good luck on the sobriety and props to you for going for it, but Lego is addictive. Like, standing with a calculator at the store checking for the best price-per-brick deal addictive.

This is what happens when you spend the day listening to the F-Zero soundtrack: an Ice Planet-inspired colour scheme (no driver, the robots have entered the race) and Alien Conquest aliens who suddenly have a desire for a hawg.

I made sure that it spins all the way around, though I don't know what the best way to hold it would be if it were built.

Also, I may have been itching to watch Redline again, hence the giant engine in a dangerous position on a small ship.

As good as the basic Lego wings are, I love love love to see brickbuilt wings. The shapes and colour patterns that can be built are too good to pass up.

Really digging the recessed parts, Buttz. Have you thought about just using grills for the engines at the back? Big round turbines are all well and good, but grills, or even more recessed cavities, with trans plates or bricks work well enough as engines.

:siren:HOW TO SET UP AND USE POV-RAY WITH LDD:siren:

First of all, you need to make sure you have the right versions of POV-Ray and the LDD to POV-Ray converter. For POV-Ray, the build you need is 3.7 Beta, which is not the build you are directed to normally through the website. Go to http://www.povray.org/beta/ instead. For the converter, download the correct version, as per your operating system (either 32- or 64-bit). Install programs and restart.

To test you've got everything working right, make a simple model of one or two bricks in LDD. Save it.

Run the converter and go through the setup. Check the db.lif directory is correct, and choose a location to store output files. Make sure you've got plenty of space, as output files can be quite large (500-1000MB). Highlight the string Library_Path="\\.\LDDIncludes" (including quotation marks) and copy to your clipboard.

Now, open POV-Ray and select Tools->Edit master POVRAY.INI. This file should be fairly empty, so scroll to the bottom and paste your text into a new line. Save and close the file.

Once this is done, go back to the converter and you should have this screen (you may need to restart the converter):

Under "Input file", select your test model .lxf file. The output should be filled automatically. You can fiddle around with the options later. For now, just hit the "Convert" button. When prompted, select "Yes" to start the render.

Now sit back and wait.

Note: The model will be rendered using the view saved by LDD, so remember to line up your model in LDD before you save.

Note 2: I had trouble getting POV-Ray to render until I turned off bevels and logos in the converter, but I was then able to turn them back on and it worked fine.

I get an error saying that there's no db.lif file, and that the model is currently open in LDD. LDD isn't open; reinstalled and restarted a few times, changed the paths, same error. The odd thing is that I can't for the life of me find the db.lif file -- is it supposed to be created by LDD, or POVRay, or the converter?

It ends up in this folder usually %AppData%\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\
It´s a file made by LDD.

The only .lif file in there is assets.lif

The converter creates the POV file if I check off the "Don't generate includes" box, but then the actual render doesn't work because it can't open the default.colours.inc file

I wonder if I need to reinstall LDD for this.

That sounds to me like you are looking in the wrong folder, since that file is in the LDD install folder. the assets file is in appdata, have you tried copying and pasting the location i posted? Should have you ending up in the right folder. hell i think you can even just paste that into LDD2POVray location folder and it should work.

Ah, there it goes, thank you. Turns out the AppData folder wasn't showing when I went to Browse for it.

Am I too late for the build?

Trying to render this gave an error, something about colours not being recognized. I think I tried going for a Batlefleet Leviathan theme here, just a colourful space monstrocity floating around the cosmos, waiting to scoop ships into it's little mouth.

Anno 2070 has beautiful architecture. It inspired me to make this, a haphazard attempt at housing design fitty years in the future.

Lots more pictures added to the build-off flickr group. No foliage or people because I'm too lazy for that. I just wanted to finish this after fighting with it for over a week. Getting the hinges to align was pure agony.

Didn't decals work that way? You cut them out, then use a moist paint brush to slide them off and onto the model.

Az: sick build. I have very little knowledge of R-Type so I don't know if that's "up to code" or whatever, but it's a great design either way. The lead bit in front of it is a great touch. I'm guessing it's common to R-Types?
