Are there any mod collections with some of the most used mods already set up like there were for Oblivion, or suggestions on what's a good basic package to overhaul the game? I read back 10 pages and didn't see anything.

Project Nevada is widely regarded, and with good reason, as the place to start when it comes to overhauling New Vegas. You have a very high degree of control over all kinds of things, and it's pretty modular.

There's also Cirosan's Classic Overhaul, and jsawyer. Look through the last couple pages again, though, as there's been a lot of talk about jsawyer and CCO, with a bit of PN sprinkled throughout.

Oh yeah, I saw all those which are great starting points. The old Oblivion mod patches usually had those types with graphic tweaks and other miscellaneous additions which all worked well together.

There's nothing like that, I don't think, nothing that's been approved by the community at large it seems. I haven't seen any large all-encompassing mod packs like that for FO3 or any Gamebryo game since, Skyrim's Tytanis mod notwithstanding. I think modding became such commonplace and relatively easy for end users that one-stop shopping for that one mod is a thing of the past.

Take a perusal of the OP, it's really quite good and is a drat solid starting point for modding New Vegas up.

Wait, how did you get the Mod Configuration Menu to play nice with all those mods? Trying to update MCM with Project Nevada just shits up my version of MCM and leaves Project Nevada unplayable.

If I remember correctly, install MCM over PN and it should work just fine.

Ok, trying to follow the awesome directions from the OP, specifically this...

FAQ
How the hell do I install these mods that I just downloaded from that Nexus porn site?
Install them by extracting the contents (usually a .rar or .7zip) and dropping the extracted contents into your steam / steamapps / common / fallout new vegas / data folder.

Question: What do you do when there is more than one folder from mods extracted into that "data" folder with the same name?

I thought I'd just rename one... guessing that's a no no since I was met with raiders with gigantic red boxes with white ! in the middle. Caused by missing textures from the EVE mod - once I took away the Laser rifle from play, the red box was gone.

To put it more specific... I renamed one of the data folders INSIDE my data folder because there were duplicates from various mods.

Help :sigh:

I'm not entirely sure what the question is, but I assume you're talking about an instance in which your folder structure looks like /data/data? You'll want to move the meshes and textures folders along with any esp/esms from /data/data into just /data.

You should look into using FOMM for managing your mods. In case you don't like a mod, you'll have to go through your /data folder and manually remove every file the mod contains. With FOMM, all you do is tell FOMM to disable it and it'll clean up your /data folder for you. It may seem a little daunting at first, but it's really very easy and takes just a little bit of monkeying around to figure it all out.

To be fair, only about 30GB of that is actually the game. I've been working on my texturing skills, and guns feel like they're the easiest to brush up said skills on. So I have a lot of gigantic PSD files that I store in the new vegas folder.

I was going to recommend the .45 De Lisle Carbine, but I can't find it on the Nexus. I'm pretty sure that the name of the mod was just the name of the weapon, too. If you can find it, it's a beautiful silenced carbine chambered in .45, with wood furniture and everything.

AG Supplementary Uniques has a version of that weapon called De Little Carbine. It's hilariously well put together.

I see. Ive been having a ton of problems lately with NMM and New Vegas. Namely that pressing Download With Manager does jack poo poo. Will using MO affect the way some mods work? Like mods that come with their own installers, will they have compatibility troubles?

You mean FOMOD scripted installers? Download the NCC file on Mod Organizer's page and follow the instructions on where to put it, and that'll allow those installers to run through Mod Organizer.

After many months of being too lazy to re-assemble my choice of mods to play this game again, I've decided I'll finally get it done and get back into the Mojave. I have only one question before I begin: I use Mod Organizer extensively for Skyrim, and I'd like to know if it's as up-to-snuff for New Vegas. I know it's listed in the OP, but I wonder if any of you have first-hand experience using it, and if there are any issues I should know about.

The mod does not work retroactively. The console command you're looking for is player.addperk <base id>, with the base ids taken from this page.

I love the New Vegas start in Goodsprings in the same way I love Morrowind's start in Seyda Neen. It takes just enough of your time to get you through character creation and point you in the direction of the main quest and then steps back to let the player do whatever they want. Really emphasizes the open-world nature and makes the game far, far more pleasant to revisit.

And in both instances you also can just gently caress off and do what you want near-immediately.
