I worked for Apple for 5 years, expanded batteries were extremely common.

9/10 it was a result of people ignoring the 'service battery' warning. In most instances, once the battery was replaced, the top case would 'pop back' into form and continue working. On the Airs at least.

Very occasionally the trackpad glass would fracture as well. SOP was to charge the customer for a new battery, but to replace any damaged components for free.

Despite UPS' best efforts*, I finally got the new MBP. I absolutely love it! Th only thing is that the trackpad is only slightly smaller than my whole house, so I keep making things happen randomly with the sides of my hands. Is there some way to crank down the sensitivity or am I just going to have to get used to it? I just accidentally sent a partial email because of it.

E: Actually I just realized I accidentally hit the SEND button on the new touch bar. Hmmm. I think I'm going to have to be careful with the way I hover my fingers over it.

I love it. I love being able to customize it. I love that it figures out that I'm typing in an address or email in web fields and shows me helpful suggestions that I can just tap. I love the volume and video controls.

I don't love how sensitive it is and how I have to adjust how I hold my fingers over the keys otherwise i accidentally hit send a lot while typing email. However a quick reconfigure to move the send button over to the right helped a LOT.

I totally respect that people don't like it but it just works for me.

I think Apple expects to brute force their way of seeing things through on that front in the same way that they handled Flash.

Right now it’s easy to look at the existing VR/AR space, which is tiny, and say “look at all this infrastructure that Apple doesn’t play nice with” in the same way that people in 2009 said that the internet was full of Flash and built on Flash and all of multimedia was Flash-based instead of HTML5 and that a piddly little mobile phone wasn’t going to change that no matter how many units it sold.

In 2024 when there’s like 50 million Apple Glasses out in the wild the shape of VR/AR will adapt to Apple’s way of doing things.

This is due to limitations on how large updates pushed by the App Store can be. There’s a reasonably small cap on download size when updating over cellular data, so in order to make sure that the app is always kept up to date the developers will publish their updated code as an App Store update, then require you to download all the content in-app. This also lets them sidestep certification processes when they want to push out new content without any code changes.

This isn’t a problem outside of the mobile space, since those restrictions don’t exist on computers always connected to wifi.

I wish the size were configurable. I know not everyone does but I have 5g and unlimited data so I wish I could set it to ‘I don’t give a gently caress download it anyway’
