My 2011 MBP finally started to graphically poo poo the bed 3 months to the day after the extended repair period ended so I did the only logical thing and ordered a 2016 MBP with a 1tb drive and the Radeon 460 in it. Feels good. Apple also called me to confirm I really did order one and then tell me it was shipping today instead of in 10 days like the mac store app said.

Despite UPS' best efforts*, I finally got the new MBP. I absolutely love it! Th only thing is that the trackpad is only slightly smaller than my whole house, so I keep making things happen randomly with the sides of my hands. Is there some way to crank down the sensitivity or am I just going to have to get used to it? I just accidentally sent a partial email because of it. E: Actually I just realized I accidentally hit the SEND button on the new touch bar. Hmmm. I think I'm going to have to be careful with the way I hover my fingers over it. *My wife was waiting for the driver and heard something at the door. I love that it figures out that I'm typing in an address or email in web fields and shows me helpful suggestions that I can just tap. I love the volume and video controls. I don't love how sensitive it is and how I have to adjust how I hold my fingers over the keys otherwise i accidentally hit send a lot while typing email. However a quick reconfigure to move the send button over to the right helped a LOT. I totally respect that people don't like it but it just works for me. E: I loving ADORE the Touch ID reader especially since my password vault uses it. Unlocking with my watch is also cool but that's not really a touch bar thing.

Hope this is the proper thread, but does anyone have any recommendations for a Mac-friendly NAS? I hooked a decent SSD to my AirPort Extreme but it's slow as poo poo if my Mac is on Wireless. The Airport's HD is for Time Machine which works fine. I want to have something that I can keep files on centrally between my machines, ideally something fault tolerant. TIA

Synology is general is about the gold standard for NASes you don't have to babysit (and that past the most basic ones are also useful as general-purpose servers), though their product line is an awful mess of fiddly differences between models. Cool thanks. I was looking at that and looked at all the options for different models and figured I’d ask here. Glad I was on the right track.

I was definitely updating my MacBook Pro 2017 when the new models come out, but my cat tried to climb on the clamshell while the little stands I have were on and he cracked the LCD on the lower right. I had planned on trading it in, but that’s probably hosed now. Should I bother getting it repaired? How much is a new screen vs how much will it reduce what I get for it? drat cat.

blastron posted:This is due to limitations on how large updates pushed by the App Store can be. There’s a reasonably small cap on download size when updating over cellular data, so in order to make sure that the app is always kept up to date the developers will publish their updated code as an App Store update, then require you to download all the content in-app. This also lets them sidestep certification processes when they want to push out new content without any code changes. I wish the size were configurable. I know not everyone does but I have 5g and unlimited data so I wish I could set it to ‘I don’t give a gently caress download it anyway’

An atari ST but with a green screen monitor that drove an Akai sampler and a bunch of synths. The Goth/Industrial band Xorcist also used an Atari ST. He did the theme song to The Iron Helix. Nobody probably cares, but my M1Pro came last night and I cannot explain how utterly loving incredible this thing is. I've never had a top-of-the-line computer before and everything this thing does is loving lightning fast. Browsing, program starts, booting up, and as expected the things I have that take direct advantage of the M1 chip are just loving space magic. As an example, it used to take me 5 minutes or so to render a decent image in Keyshot on my 2017 MBP. This thing is so fast, I literally can't time it. As soon as I hit the tender button, ding it's done! The real time render on-screen only takes about a second to finish if I move things around.
