Question about the Pro controller: Any word as to whether it can be used instead of the Wii Classic controller for Wii games that support it?

If it's anything like the setup on the Wii whenever you're playing older games it wont recognize newer items. So i'm guessing no until they say otherwise. Now as for whether you can use your Classic Controller instead of having to buy a Pro Controller? That's up in the air. I haven't found an answer on that yet. I'm going to guess 'Yes' though because most games you can use the Wiimote/Nunchuck and that fits in that category.

Watchdogs will be a launch title (or launch window) for next gen systems - I'll stick my neck out on that one.

They've come out and said it's for PS3/360 with the word floating around right after E3 that if Nintendo wanted it they'd put it on WiiU too. So, yeah.

Some of these large brick and mortar retailers are notorious for flubbing console launches. A lot of people who were in the front of the line left empty handed that day. I am sure that most of these retailers have gotten their act together by now, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least a handful of stores completely drop the ball.

Yeah, which is why even though I got ahold of like 5 separate Gamestops and got them all to repeat their "we're only taking so many pre-orders based on what we're supposed to get according to HQ" and i'm number 4 for a deluxe at mine, i'm still going to be there 11am just to make sure.

I think there's a difference between architecture and engines, though, even though they go hand in hand in a way. I know it seems like I'm trying to twist the narrative to fit my points, but do you or others honestly not see the WiiU being the home to dumbed down ports or at least home to ports from the current generation like it's already becoming (ME3, Batman, etc.)?

Oh i'm absolutely certain the WiiU will get every garbage everything ever. Even more so than the Wii since it'll be able to handle stuff within the realm (even if it just winds up at the welcome mat) of the other systems later and all the systems now as well no doubt being cheaper to develop for later on when compared to the newer 720/PS4. It has that interesting middle ground that really makes it the target of everything.

Louisgod posted:

This is the big point: The engine can run on the WiiU and other platforms, but at what sacrifice, and will developers choose it over UE3 even if it means they'll have to spend more on development costs? It's good to see that Epic was just blowing smoke up people's asses.
The funny thing with Epic claiming the engine was coming 5ish years down the line but scalable so it'd be useable now it's a wonder if it'll be worth it for most developers who aren't EA to use it at all in comparison with UE3. The industry itself is at a really weird place and it's kinda interesting how much of a crap shoot everything could be just based on a few extra dollars here and there on either end of the coin.

2) Smash is a real fighting game, you fight each other and it's a game, quit being stupid.

3) Mario Kart ISNT always fair but that IS part of the fun, take the stick out of your rear end.

4) Zelda will conform to EVERYONES specific vision because instead of the typical forest/fire/water temples they'll do different eras. Wild West. Swashbuckling. Steamboat Zeldy. Even a 2D top down area and a side scrolling setup like Legend/Link to the Past and Zelda 2 respectively. It'll all end with a running rousing space opera battle on a giant rainbow bridge and you'll defeat Mecha Ganon by dropping the Majora's Mask moon on top of his head in a scene that will melt disks and spontaneously cause tears to roll from your eyes in it's glory. I think the only thing I can honestly say i'd really wish ZombiU had that it doesn't is more connected areas. You go to each area by way of fast travel sewer grate, some areas are smaller some are larger, some are pretty much a labyrinth setup. Just no way to go between two areas without fast traveling. It's not much but it's my one gripe so far, other than that it's an actual factual survival horror game. Its fun if you really enjoy that instead of action horror.

And yes there is variety. Between regular zombies and helmet zombies and attention whore zombies i've seen so far i've had to fight/run/plan accordingly in different spots.

Alright seeing as there's no ZombiU thread which is goofy i'll post this here for you who have gotten that far. Spoilers yo. Alright i'm on the mission where you have to get to the gas station in Spitalfield Green so you can get the generators back up for the safe house. Only problem is i'm stuck. I head to the back of the Markets down that one walkway and there's a coded door there. I look around with the black light and in that little two door shed there's half of a code in it and half of a code on the wall. Now I figured it was like the Raven's room in the Warehouses where you get the Dee letter and the smg (or like half of the Riddler's Clues in Arkham City) where you have to line it up and then scan it but unlike that one it's never lining up for me. Anyone know what i'm talking about? I'm pretty worried that my game is bonked since I still have the "get to the roof" mission from the prior mission that I guess glitched out and left the 'get to the roof' part there even though I did and it didn't accept it and it checked off all the objectives prior and after. Sorry for the rambling paragraph. Any help would be appreciated.

I had issues with the roof objective too, it wasn't starting the cutscene even after I cleared it off, but a quick save reload solved that. I'm not sure about your bug but I think if you're still getting the find fuel objectives you should be okay?

Crazy, yeah it doesn't let me scan either one at all. As for the roof stuff it all played out like it should have according to a walkthrough I looked at after I got stuck (which by the way all end before where I am which was nice and frustrating. Heh.) it just never took that objective away and i've got the "Go to Spitalfield Green" one too now so who knows. FAKE EDIT: Just turned it back on and doubled back to Tower of London and a chopper is still there hovering off to the side and the objective refuses to go away and the code at the door in the markets refuses to let me scan it. Guess I get to start over. C'est la vie.

It's got nothing to do with not seeing the hardware potential it's just that there's really no need to reinvent the wheel in alot of cases. Alot of the new games coming out like the new Monolith RPG seems to be using the full resources of the system as far as using all assets related to ingame graphics and everything. Just like they did with Xenoblade(which was probably the best game on the entire system), however Xenoblade didn't even use the wii-mote features because there really was no need for them to be tacked on. I mean if you're building all genres around a hardware action feature you're going to wind up limiting the genres on the system itself. Hell most DS games didn't even use the second screen for anything major most of the time.

Just because you don't NEED it doesn't mean it's not worth trying out if you've got a good idea. You can make a good fun fighter with nothing but a d-pad and two buttons but that doesn't mean you don't want to try more buttons/things/poo poo.
