Oh drat, this game is actually coming out by late october. I thought it was going to be another Steam Early Access thing, guess I am no longer used to games simply coming out.

Checks are always rolling against your stat (Toughness in this case, IIRC), the skills are narrow cases where you get a bonus to the stat for the purpose of checking against it. Do note that WFRP actually has a subsystem for binge drinking, as characters are expected to get mad drunk, so that is a very important skill to have!

 Slayer Bardin with ranged weapon spotted. Maybe he's just limited to short-range weapons like videogame shotguns or throwing axes despite the career description? Maybe it's the early demos not having the character finished. Hope it's the former.

Closed beta has started. Posted the reddit link because the devs responded to it without sending a black ops team. Like dmboogie I got the invitation in my e-mail. There will be a beta inclusive of pre-orders later. It is also apparently the second wave of beta, so they've been doing it since January. Pre-order promo runs until March 8th, so that's a decent guess as to release, as the official line is Q1, but might get pushed back like the Jan 25th date.

One might suppose other characters might have support skills. You can equip a trinket in 1 that heals people around you when you heal yourself, I guess?

Theoretically it could convert non-piercing damage into piercing damage and just be poorly labelled. So the +10% armor piercing damage on a 0% armor piercing weapon would have 10% of its damage as piercing armor.

They are for the class you open them with. [edit]Also their power level depends on your character with highest power level, so you can definitely leap frog new characters if you've got a few boxes stored up.
