I did get the impression that the Gouf lost out because it was more specialised than the Dom, with its overreliance on fixed weapons like its heat rods and finger-guns (which would presumably make it really hard for it to hold any weapon above a certain size).

Yeah, that's pretty much why the Gouf Custom happened, because all the close quarters, built-in weapons weren't working out, so they redesigned it to focus on being a lightweight, more modular suit for ace pilots.

Obviously what needs to be done is to have the final battle FA unicorn but with the phenex's shield backpack thing, with two shields on the arms and one on the back. Five shields. And then since it's the final battle version it can use shield bits, so it can have five shield bits, and then resupply so it can have five shields attached to it with the five shield bits.

And then they all have the armed armor DE shield booster/gun parts on them. :kheldragar:

Favorite protagonist gundams? Hoo boy.

Xi Gundam: Boy, shocker, the ludicrously big spiky suit right at the edge of late-mid UC where suits could be still be gigantic armored death machines. So out of character for me. But yeah, the Xi is the hulking giant of UC MSes, to the point that it borders on MA territory, with every single piece of brand spanking new tech they could possibly fit into a suit, sleekness be damned. The Xi to me is the perfect embodiment of its time period, and the last great gasp of large-scale MS design before VSBRs ruined everything.

Unicorn Gundam Series: People have already talked about the design itself enough, so I'm just gonna go into what I love the most - Its modularity. I know that this is more of a gunpla kind of thing but hey it kind of counts. Anyways, for me, I love the sheer amount of stuff that can go on it, and the fact that can all go on at the same time if you want. There's nothing stopping you from slapping Armed Armors XN/DEs, the Phenex wing pack, the FA booster backpack, etc etc all on at once. And the simple colors make it plenty easy to just make a custom that suits your tastes.

Exia: Yeah, I know, it's weird going from two giant hulking monsters to one of the smallest, lithest suits made. But I really love the sleekness and simplicity of the design, both in terms of looks and combat focus. And weirdly enough for me, Exia has the one late-series monster pack that I actually hate. Thankfully hobo exia makes up for any failings from the Avalanche or GN Arms. :swoon:

Special mentions go to Full Armor ZZ, Barbatos, and Wing.

I want an alt history Gundam sort of like Patlabor where mobile suits never really get absorbed into the military system and it basically just Amuro and Char being engineers in rival space robot construction firms.

What?

I know I've said it before but I'd kill to see a show centered around Anaheim doing R&D and testing and just being a little slice of life thing that just so happens to involve piloting ludicrously powerful prototype death machines. A new suit every episode keeps the toy company happy, and you can have all the fights you want with mock battles or simulations or drones or rival companies/terrorists/whatever.

Of course that's like 90% of the way towards Advance of Zeta anyways I guess but hey.

I'm struggling to think of the UC shows I haven't liked at this point. Obviously I love 0079, Zeta, 08th MS Team, CCA, Unicorn, and I even like 0083 and F91.

It's the AUs I'm more spotty on. I love Wing, IBO, and 00 S1, and G is fun, but the rest hasn't really resonated with me.

In my dream lineup I'd love to have Beltorchika's Children animated and a Moriki helmed Hathaway's Flash. Drawn just like the other Moriki series I love, Silent Mobius :kheldragar:
