I forget, is there any cogent reason why some of these chucklefucks (Ben in particular iirc) are so virulently against the Freespace series, not-being-made-by-Chris aside? I'm playing through them again recently, and sure it's a mission-based space pew-pew not open universe, but the combat is totally on-point and it's just fun to blast few every couple of years.

Okay so let's say some of these people get their wish and piracy works the way they want i.e. 'honourable' pirates who generally don't kill you. You get captured. Here's your options. 1. You are instantly 'ransomed' and immediately appear in a nearby space station. Ruins immersion. Unacceptable. 2. You are captured and have to stay on the pirate ship until they deliver you somewhere to ransom you. Enjoy not doing anything in this game you dropped $30k on for an undefined amount of hours until they get around to dropping you off, I guess. 3. You are captured. Goons leave you in the cell forever and leave the ship you're in in low/decaying orbit. The only rational approach to being beaten but not killed by a pirate becomes immediate suicide, lest you are stuck in a jail cell indefinitely. All you've done is remove the need for the pirates to waste the bullet. See you in the 'verse.

My excitement built, then as quickly departed, A scrub-tier Star Citizen had said "You're Retarded." A cacophonous clatter; Goons started to shout, All chiming in to yell "Gryphon,  ".When what did my wondering eyes just then see, But an internet warlord, Derek Smart (M.D.). At the shitposter he scowled "Get thee hence." "By the way, goons, please purchase Line of Defense." His brow, it then furrowed. His eyes had a gleam. His knuckles were bloody (from a vending machine). He glanced at his refund from CIG's store, And girded his loins for an Internet War. They saw just how poorly the game had been coded, The community fractured, and quickly imploded. Arguing increased as the game took shape, Equivocating that to gank was to rape. "Piracy? Murder! Fighting shouldn't take place!" "I'll lose my Idris if there's battles in space!" They turned on their own, and then started to brawl, Some arguing fiercely "No combat at all!" On the merits and downfalls the carebears did harp, But to Goons, Merry Christmas, and to all a good  PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARP.

You know,I never really got a good handle on exactly how big Ben is; I tend to read this thread on my teeny-weeny smartphone on the bus to work because otherwise I'd not have time to keep up with it, so I've not watched much in the way of video content. But something like this suddenly draws all of those goon posts rabbiting on about how concerned they are about his health into really sharp focus. Like no-one's physically perfect, but it takes YEARS of neglect to get to that stage. How old is he again?

Reading what's happening to CIG now is like reading the most cringeworthy elements of the post-mortem for both 3D Realms and Ion Storm Dallas. You've got Romero's insistence on overly-expensive facilities and lack of coherent vision and Broussard's scope creep and visceral addiction to reworking nearly-complete elements. At this stage it would almost be a step forward to scrap everything, license the COBRA game engine, and start from scratch after actually hammering out a reasonable and immutable scope.

Today I found out that middle-clicking in E:D gives me the ability to look around the cockpit and I saw that my character moved the throttle when I did. I was immediately so immersed by the fact that I was controlling a character controlling my space ship that I had to trigger the PVP slider and go into Solo Play for a while lest my fragile psyche be shattered by trolls. Also lol at the fact that the pebble that started the landslide of discontent was because you aren't going to have a shoot mans game in your pew pew spaceship sim. The citizens are revolting. And also discontent.

I don't think it would be too hyperbolic to say that the fastest way that Chris could complete the closest thing remotely possible to his original conception of Star Citizen would be to wait until Frontier has FPS in E:D, and license the entire engine off of them wholesale.
