The answer is, volcano insurance pays out and now they own a couple acres of lava rock. Or you skipped the volcano insurance and now you own a couple acres of lava rock. There's no going back, there's no rebuilding, you just have to take a loss and rebuild your life somewhere else. Because even if you were mad enough to try, no one is going to rebuild roads and utilities out to a couple acres of lava rock.

lost another at the plant today. had a foreman playing hacky sack with another floor worker above the iron smelter and lost his balance and fell over the rail. he landed next to the pot luckily but the weight of him falling off shook the walkway (suspended with wire ties to the connecting joints to save money) and the other guy dropped his slurpee into the molten iron and the foreman took a splash of liquid metal to the face. goddamn hippie.

Iran has a submarine that is the exact same way, and they have to have two tender boats follow it around... so anytime you want to know where their sub is look for them. They've had to be rescued and pulled back to port a couple times. A few years ago they threatened to 'park it off the coast of america'... good luck making it there.

They could just just send the two tenders...

Next step comes later, putting it on machine skates for actually moving it.

There are a lot of small companies that email you an un-editable form (like an image of a photocopy of a child's idea of a form impeded in a pdf so that you can't even convert it to word) that must be filled out by hand and then scanned and emailed back. They could set up an online form but they refuse. Print email, fill out by hand, scan, email.

Convert to an editable image file format, scrawl your answers in using MSPaint or whatever, compress to lovely quality JPEG and send back.

Probably the most brilliant racing cheat ever was this one:

https://crasstalk.com/2011/03/cheatins-still-winnin-the-story-of-toyota-racings-best-cheat-ever/

To limit speeds the rules mandated a restrictor plate to limit air intake to the turbo. The Toyota team designed everything so that when you installed the turbo in the car, the end of the intake hose pressed on springs within the turbo housing and moved the restrictor plate slightly (5mm) forward to ease the restriction. Remove the parts to inspect them, and everything looks and measures right. But installed, you get 50 more horsepower.

Another article, with technical details.

Ever read Schweik? Like the bar owner being thrown in jail because a fly poo poo on the portrait of Franz in his bar.

I don't know if it's the same for y'all in Finland, but my father said you would only see the German flag flying from civic buildings or during sports games. Even in mainland China and Taiwan during the 80's (the latter still under miltary rule at the time), they would only be where he'd expect them. Cue my father and I walking around a small town in Iowa during their combo 4th of July/volunteer fire-squad fundraiser with flags on every house, every car in the parade, every business, etc. Complete and total bemusement on his part.

In the street where my grandparents lived in Germany, there were flag holders on a lot of houses. For church flags during processions. It's a *very* catholic area.
