Nintendo's VR will be out when all the other ones have their footholds on the market and it'll be the only one that actively prevents you using it for porn so there won't be any point to it.

Apparently the gamecube version is ultimately "superior" due to button layout despite being cribbed from widescreen, though you're still playing Twilight Princess so it's still a bad time.

For about four hours it'll be a fun game and then it goes back to being bad, not as bad as the start tho. Keep pushing through and there will be two top-tier zelda dungeons, Arbiter's Grounds and Yeti Mansion, then call it quits. Then play Wind Waker for a game that's actually good instead of a flatline with two sudden peaks.

Which I think is a shame, especially because Nintendo was so good about BC these past few gens, but oh well. Even if the NX ends up having an optical drive I honestly doubt it'll be backwards compatible, as good as the Wii U is there's really not much benefit to backwards compatibility compared to the cost of it, specially when there's only a handful of titles on hot demand for the console and it seems like they're porting them over.

Straight up, I think if you try and sell people on any Wii U title with "Runs smoother! 1080p! NO NEED FOR SCREEN CONTROLLER!!" they'll get it in a heartbeat. It'll make Splatoon and Mario Maker worse for sure but every single other game will just get more attention.

I love the gamepad, but overall it taking extra resources and jacking up the console price didn't pan out.Dr Cheeto posted:This is never happening. One of the new Zelda's things is "Link has a magical tablet that he uses on his adventures" so dehumanize yourself and face to Wii U Gamepad. Which, for the demo at least, isn't used in any capacity with the gamepad. It's a button to pull up your apps and then pick one, i'm sure for the full Wii U version you'll be allowed to just tap it but they already showed at E3 how it could work without the gamepad, all you need is a standard controller with a gyro in it (like the PS4) and you're 1:1 with the E3 demo.

The art design is just straight up ugly, not much else to say, stare at enemies long enough and you'll realize you don't want to.

Soul Glo posted:Yo, as a PlayStation fan, if you think the Wii U doesn't look better on average than a PS3 then you haven't checked out the PS3's muddy, hammered dogshit-looking library lately. The difference is probably just straight up in the architecture, like the Wii U has better something but something else bottlenecks which was the opposite for the other consoles (or something like that) and i'm sure third party developers would've eventually figured out how to make PS360 stuff look quite a bit nicer on Wii U but they had six years with those consoles already, by the time the Wii U was 2 years old everyone bailed ship and went to the real big power improvements. Nintendo, of course, really pulled off some sweet stunts with the Wii U, along with the much nicer art design just lead to prettier games. I might do the same with S&M, my gf and I are each getting a version, if they do make an NX version and add something to that it would be fun just playing together and picking up 'mons neither used.

Because flash media has gotten cheaper since the 90s still doesn't mean it's just as cheap. I think you're looking at it the wrong way, this isn't the Wii UU, this is the new handheld Nintendo console that's been as successful as ever with a gimmick that makes it a home console as well. Handhelds still sell well, get third party support and have cartridge because discs on a handheld is the stupidest idea.

It's a pretty straight forward marketing plan, tell people that no, Nintendo isn't going third party for phones exclusive and come September they'll announce their new system and begin a marketing campaign that will hopefully not be an embarrassment like the Wii U one. Whatever ends up of the NX for now we at least know it can run Breath of the WIld, so that's a pretty dope thing to have on the go and hook on your tv, something of around that power getting the entirety of Nintendo's output sounds great, if you look at the Wii U's software library it's great but limited while the 3DS is great but also pretty huge, both together would be excellent.

s.i.r.e. posted:Yeah but this has already been done with the Nvidia Shield and it's not selling like wildfire, I'd think that having the name "Nintendo" on it would help it but that did gently caress-all for the Wii U. Nintendo put out a 250 dollar machine that outputs at 240p and had a barely functional 3D Gimmick attached, it has sold around 60 million units and keeps consistently being the top-selling console in Japan. A slightly souped up Nvidia Shield with the Nintendo name sounds like a good direction for the handheld side of things.

Instant Sunrise posted:Yeah I'd say that the price cut, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 played a huge part in saving the 3DS after its wet fart of a launch Animal Crossing and FE: Awakening also were pretty big hits, more than any single game saving the 3DS I think it's just that it started really rolling by the time its first holiday season came and then it just kept going with that momentum throughout 2012 and by 2013 it was a successful console that also got the first 3D mainline Pokemon games. Early 3DS was pretty dire, but I think the price cut skews people's perception a bit since it took under a year to get going properly, sadly on the Wii U side of things getting that sort of momentum with first party titles proved to be impossible as the challenges of making these huge games that use the Wii U's HD powers simply slowed development to a crawl and by the time another "batch" could be thrown at a decent pace the console was pretty dead on the water and it just makes more sense to keep them in the oven another year so more titles can be ready for a good launch Year for the NX.

I love the gamepad and have no problems holding it but there's no doubt that it was a misstep for Nintendo, it raised the cost, took up resources, was the main reason the marketing got confusing (plus the title of course) and few games really made use of it, it was a good idea but it simply did not pan out.

6 months of marketing sound good if it's not some obvious mistake like the Wii "no, it's not just a controller for the wii, even though you can barely even see the console itself" U. All they need is to announce it and market it as "NX! The new handheld console form Nintendo! You can also connect it to your tv to unlock MORE POWER!" Even if people assume it means plugging an HDMI to it they can't gently caress it up if the dock thing comes in the box.
