Followed by a shitshow of a coaching search led by an embattled placeholder AD, culminating in the hire of Lane Kiffin for $10m a year after he initially turns us down. God willing

Oregon strikes me as the kind of program with insular-rear end boosters who want to keep everything in-house, so they'll keep hiring Bellotti/Chip coaching tree guys because that worked so well when USC did it with Pete's tree.

momtartin posted:Not exactly something to be proud of (I say this as a fan of the team that has lost to eastern Michigan). I think the point is that Wyoming is close to bowl eligibility, which is tangible progress after going 2-10 and 4-8 the past two years. That probably buys Bohl a longer leash than he might've had before the season, and certainly gives him reason to stick around and keep building on that progress.

Pakled posted:Harbaugh leaving the 49ers when he did was even more inexplicable than Chip Kelly leaving them now so I'm willing to believe it's possible. Harbaugh got pushed out the door in a power struggle during the peak of their contention window. Kelly inherited the least-talented team in the league that's not going to win anytime soon. Oh, and they still employ the lovely GM who created that roster. It's not a long-term situation and I'm pretty sure Chip knows that.

BC seems like they're in kinda the same boat as Purdue, where outside of brief peaks with an elite recruit (BC had Matt Ryan, Purdue had Brees/Orton), they just have long, long stretches of complete irrelevance. I don't know who that job appeals to, especially in a region where BC Football is like fifth- or sixth-fiddle behind the Boston pro teams. There's no real recruiting hotbed, either -- at least Purdue can theoretically fight for whatever scraps Michigan/OSU/MSU/Notre Dame leave behind. Isn't FIU actually in a pretty good spot to be a solid mid-major program? They're in a recruiting hotbed and could feasibly attract some decent talent that the A-list Florida schools don't have room for. That's basically the same blueprint UCF and USF rode to hot stretches for a few years. Don't know if Butch Davis of all people is the right hire, but the circumstances are ripe for them to be a 6-7-win bowl team every year. Feels like the only real question is if the brass cares enough to aspire to UCF/USF level. Benne fucked around with this message at 01:33 on Nov 15, 2016 |

Speaking of which, is Todd Graham's seat getting any warmer? I know ASU had a billion injuries, but going from 5-1 to losing out and getting shitkicked by a bad Arizona team (missing a bowl in the process) can't have done much for his clout.

I'm gobsmacked as to how Florida can go from one of the most exciting offenses in the country with guys like Tebow and Harvin, to the unwatchable garbage it is now. That can't all be coaching, can it? Did they lose the state's top dynamic playmaker recruits to FSU or something?

I'm actually a bit surprised that I haven't heard more smoke about Washington's coordinators being poached. OC Jonathan Smith has a smartly balanced offensive gameplan that accentuates everyone's strengths while hiding their weaknesses, and DC Pete Kwiatkowski still has the defense playing at a high level even after losing his best pass rusher and best LB to injury. This Huskies squad is arguably not a playoff team on paper, but they've been coached up exceptionally well. Yeah, a lot of that goes to Petersen, but it's a bit strange that his coordinators don't get more shine. Benne fucked around with this message at 08:29 on Nov 29, 2016 |
