I don't think anyone is really in top hoops shape during the first month of the season.

Good morning basketfriends! I am wondering where you all like to go for morning roundups of the previous night's slate of games, and for NBA news/analysis in general. I realize this is a pretty vague request, but I'm just trying to expand my readership beyond Twitter accounts – and looking for something between the unreadable horror of nba.com/ESPN and the super in depth stuff you might find on Nylon Calculus. Any thoughts?

Thank you god bless and here is a picture of Clarence Weatherspoon smiling for your troubles:

So how do we feel about the Cleveland Indians potentially blowing a 3–1 series lead in the finals. Is this karma for LeBron's Halloween party? A sure sign that the Cavs will miss the playoffs this year? Discuss

I'm pretty sure the main reason Phil wanted Noah was because of his ability to pass, which in theory would be a perfect fit for the triangle. The problem of course is that the Knicks don't really run the triangle, and also that the triangle doesn't really work anymore

I get your point here but I'm not sure that I'd call a Ray Allen corner 3 a "one in a million miracle" shot

I started thinking about the circumstance leading up to the shot too, LeBron missing so wide, Bosh being in just the right spot, Duncan not being on the floor for the rebound. Not to mention everything that preceded it in those final 30 seconds.

All that said I would absolutely be in for a Spurs/Cavs final

An interesting thing to note about the 2016 finals was that so many of the games were blowouts...

Cavaliers 89 - 104 Warriors
Cavaliers 77 - 110 Warriors
Warriors 90 - 120 Cavaliers
Warriors 108 - 97 Cavaliers
Cavaliers 112 - 97 Warriors
Warriors 101 - 115 Cavaliers
Cavaliers 93 - 89 Warriors
Average margin of victory: 17.4

...and yet it still felt compelling throughout.

This kind of investigation into who's voted how (and the fact that people will always seek it out) only further reaffirms to my mind that delaying all the awards announcements until weeks after the finals have ended is a mistake. The spirit of the idea is right (build up suspense and drama! have everyone tune in and find out at once!), but it's undermined by tabulating votes ahead of time and spoiling the winners, not to mention the fact that the momentum of the season will be totally over by then anyways.

Good news, y'all. Michael Sweetney is trim & talking about his depression.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/knicks-bust-michael-sweetney-finds-peace-depression-article-1.3141948

quote:

On his first day in the Rookie Transition Program, Sweetney learned about the heart attack that killed his 52-year-old father, Samuel. Just two days after the funeral, the power forward began his first NBA training camp.

"I didn't really have no time to digest it," Sweetney, now 34 years old, said. "And it just started to be a snowball effect and I just started being really depressed and started gaining weight and things just started going in a bad way. I think at that time, nobody really talked about it. You were looked at as crazy, kind of where now people are talking about depression and things like that. People say depression. Back then, you were crazy. So I was just one thing I was scared to talk about it."

I'm still amazed at how little people talked then/today about how it looked like LeBron broke his dang wrist on that play. Yes, the Chaos Dunk That Wasn't is its own craziness. But I still get queasy at the image of James, the savior of Cleveland, unable to shoot a free throw and having to exit game 7 in the final moment before he could achieve the impossible and deliver the title, all due to his first serious injury in his career (and arguably an avoidable one; why not try to run out the clock/force the foul there?). How unthinkably tragic that would've been.

And if he really did break his wrist, would he have tried to shoot the FTs anyway? Would he have shot them lefty? Even if he wasn't injured, you can tell he was off, based on how he clanked the first and barely rattled in the second. Maybe that was just nerves though, who knows.
