I know that state succession is unconstitutional but would it be legal for us to give Staten Island to New Jersey? Has there been any large areas moved between states in the past century? I feel like this one simple trick could help us with some of our problems.

States trading territory is legal but it requires both states and Congress to agree on it. Staten Island once voted to become independent (as a new city still part of NYS) but were talked down by Guiliani.

Tom Perez is fine. I wouldn't have voted for him, but the main knock on him is basically 1) Bernie didn't endorse him, 2) He was an Obama appointee, and 3) as an Obama appointee, he talked the administration line re: TPP.

Fortunately, given that DNC chair is emphatically not a policy job and is about apportioning resources and coordinating strategy of various other campaigns... and given that what's Perez has had to say sounds an awful lot like what Keith Ellison has had to say, and having him be the chair as a full time job and letting Ellison stay in congress...

Eh, it's fine.

It's not good or exciting but loving lol if this is your line in the sand.

He also immediately made Ellison his deputy chair.

vvvvvv It allowed me to go through the web form and told me my change would be processed. I guess it could still be rejected during processing?

it seems like Monday is the official start of the NYHA blitz. Richard Gottfried is appearing on the Brian Lehrer show that morning, presumably to talk about it. he and Gustavo Rivera will be holding a press conference that afternoon about reintroducing it. it's been labeled as not a priority for the leadership of both chambers but both of them seem hellbent on passing it, and there are a lot of people in both chambers, especially many new senators, who support it. so we'll see

there is also talk by Brad Hoylman of reintroducing the pied-a-tere tax, instigated by some rich shithead buying a penthouse for $27 million

*$238 million.

The rich white version of loft is an apartment in a formerly industrial building that was rezoned and fully converted into residences. These lofts are apartments in buildings that are still active industrial sites so it's technically illegal to have anyone living there. The law in question would regulate these lofts and place limits and obligations on the landlords just like any other rental property.

So what's the deal with getting a mail-in ballot in New York? Do we still have to just lie and apply for an absentee ballot if we don't want to go to the polls or is there any movement by the powers that be to push something through to make it easier?

Same as the primary election a few weeks back- you won't have to lie, they will allow you to put "I don't want to catch the covids" as the reason on your absentee ballot application so everyone in the city can be eligible through at worst a slight exaggeration.

You should be much more worried about what is currently happening to USPS, requesting the ballot and filling it out are not going to be the hard parts.

A ballot which has no names remaining drops out and no longer affects the tallies. It's 50%+1 of all the ballots involved in that round of vote counting, so it's ballots that had that candidate's name as one of the 5.
