Never played 40k proper, just modeled and been into the specialist games (I'm that one guy that actually got Betrayal at Calth to play the board game). I grabbed Dark Imperium because I hate money, but I can't decide between Dark Angels and Imperial Fists. I know the fluff, but game wise, what's going to be the main difference in play style?

I know people are saying they don’t like the direction they’re taking the Emperor, with him being so cold and emotionless, but being an immobile corpse for 10,000 years and existing only in a constant state of battling interdimensional hellspace demons is bound to sap some humanity out of a person. I don’t think it cheapens the Heresy if the Emperor isn’t the same after ten millennia of an unliving torment.

The second batch of models I primed with it came out looking blotchy and gross and over-primed and I need to correct this mistake I had partial success with Super Clean, but be careful when scrubbing because it won't get it all and some of it is bonded to the plastic, so if you're too aggressive you can really gently caress the model up. Just go over it with a toothbrush until it's Good Enough (tm) to re-prime lightly for a painting surface.

ineptmule posted:From my eyes-and-hands-on experience - and of products that people here applaud as being excellent - no competitor of GW yet makes plastics of an equal quality. I bookmarked the Death Thread originally just to watch the convo when I first got into miniatures, in hopes I’d get the scoop on other manufacturers as good as GW that I might not have heard of. Turns out they don’t exist. People can dislike the theme and the style all they want, but anyone saying that another manufacturer working with polystyrene, or other inferior plastics, is within ten years of GW is just trying really hard to justify their personal boycott.

Lovely Joe Stalin posted:You're a bit off the mark there I think. They've been making the bulk of the plastics in Lenton forever. As far as I know the crown jewels of GW, the actual plastic army units, never went to China. Their simpler/bulkier scenery stuff was (may still) be made there. It came pre-clipped from the sprue and was a more brittle feeling plastic. They also experimented with making some FW kits there I believe, but they stopped that. They definitely still print books in China, but that's irrelevant. Yep. Some of their printing is even done in the UK, they seem to only outsource the hardcover stuff that would be horrendously expensive. Or maybe they mix it up, but some of my soft rulebooks for things have said Printed in the UK.

I don't attend tournaments for anything because of attending tournaments previously. I don't sneer at people that do, but the kind of people and attitudes I ran into made it not worth it. Slannesh can work, GW just needs to do a little more to make it less "tits, rear end, and dick" and more "obsession to the point of total corruption". Slaneesh is an important part of the Warhammer world. It's like bait, the groggiest nards and neckiest beards just can't help but dive in and create abominations that the rest of the community knows to ostracize them for. Without Slaneesh you might accidentally peg one of those people as normal and interact.
