After playing my Deathwatch vs a friend's death guard yesterday, I see absolutely no reason not to equip every deathwatch veteran with storm bolters.

One possible reason is that storm bolters will cost more post-FAQ or CA18. Because they are currently a pretty brain-dead choice.

I just realized that between Forgeworld and the Kill Team boxed set I probably have enough AdMech to make a battalion. Someone tell me what I should do with them. Should they get toys? What do I do with these weird steampunk cosplaying guys?

Onager Dunecrawlers are cool toys. So are the robbits.

They can make for a really solid firebase to supplement your Deathwatch if you go dual batallions and throw in 1 or 2 dunecrawlers for the admech, giving you some much needed long range anti-tank.

So does anyone know of any third party female elf heads? I won a new on sprue Eldar Farseer on auction this weekend and I'm looking to do a headswap on it. So far my only option seems to be Dark Eldar ones so I've been looking around for alternatives a bit.

Not third party but fantasy range has some good options. The glade guard, wildwood rangers and sisters of the watch all have good female heads.

Appreciate a second opinion on which head I should use for the Farseer. The way the hair sweeps alongside the robes on the third one is nice but the weird half helmet just looks unfitting. Not sure how much of that I can trim away.

I think Farseers and Spiritseers have goofy helmets as part of their charm so I like the third one. And I say this not just because I am using a very similar head for one of my spiritseers. I think it ended up meshing fine once painted.

Yeah I was thinking the same drat thing; just imagine if they'd made a robust system for building unique characters from a pool of interacting stats and traits. Nope, run this same guy ever time. I guess that's easier to balance and all, but spinning it as an advantage was a bit much.

I mean, you can do that. Rogue Trader already lets you do that with Elucia and Thrice-Cursed.

There is a pool of 10 or so traits with different point values and you can select up to 3, as well as selecting the level that the commander starts at (for points), which means you get a lot of variety in a commander.

The way commanders works is that they have a base statline and cost. Additionally, you can spend points on up to 3 traits from a pool. For RT, there were 10 or so shared traits and Elucia and Thrice-Cursed each had two exclusive traits you could take as well. Additionally, they each were a new specialism (hence the post saying there will be 10 new specialisms) and you can pay points to start Elucia at level 2, 3, 4. She is 25 points at level 1 and 100 points at level 4. Plus the points you spend on her commander traits.

Presumably, the new commanders will be quite similar and you can build your own Primaris Librarian with a unique set of traits and whatnot. It appears that the commander boxes provide a fixed set of traits and level-ups and perhaps include some exclusive traits.

I think "customizable" will be in normal GW fashion.

For example, I fully expect the Ork warboss to be required to have a kombi-rocket and power klaw with no other options. Simply because the Grukks kit is the only plastic warboss kit.

Commander customization has nothing to do with wargear.

You know what I wouldn’t mind at all for at least one warhammer IP vidja game? No graphics, sprites or anything like that, not even lovely 1998 pixels. Just gimme some stop-motion video of regular plastic models moving across the screen, like in monopoly games. Represent all the movement like that. And when enemies fight, they slide base to base and otherwise are regular miniatures.

The maps? Actual GW scenery! Combat animations? Dice rolling over the combatants’ heads! The most I would want is little 2D graphics for shooting attacks, and maybe stuff like smoke and lights overlaid on the terrain. Save all the money that would have been spent on those things, and put in a super robust customization screen. Every single GW paint, useable on anyone in your roster.

Basically I want a single player, playable version of Vassal with extra stuff and a painting app.

That sounds loving awful.

I hope they try and make good games instead.

And the Dreadnought child just won't stop screaming.

Does anyone know if Commanders were confirmed to be narrative only, or just not allowed in matched play? (and if that last distinction means anything)

Commanders can be used in missions that state that commanders can (or must) be used. Some of these are matched play, some are narrative. The only distinction between Narrative and Match Play is the missions themselves and that in the case of the former, they are asymmetrical.

I hope they are mostly single kits. Dual kits are great for arm swaps that can be easily magnetized, but for something like this, you’d just likely end up with a bunch of extra parts and pay extra versus a single kit. Each variant is way too distinctive.

Goshdarnit, I just today bought a squad of Devastators as conversion fodder for truscale SMs and they're already starting to redo the existing ranges in a more realistic scale? Curses! Oh well. Presumably they will (eventually) also update the loyalists to be this sort of scale. Unless they're going to handwave it as CSMs are taller than their non-Primaris counterparts since they're of Great Crusade-era stock.

Also I got a box of 4th-ed (or maybe 5th-ed) era Crisis Battlesuit set because it was going for (relatively) cheap. I think I might have a problem.

I think most of us here would be shocked if GW ever produced a non-primaris loyalist SM kit ever again.

You build a "roster" of up to 20 models with no restrictions on points or wargear. You get to see your opponent's roster and what mission you mission you're playing before you choose your 100pts "kill team." Your kill team is subject to the restrictions on wargears, model count limits, etc. I believe both you and your opponent simultaneously reveal which models your kill teams are composed of.

You don't get to see your opponent's roster, you just tell each other your faction keyword.
