My initial thoughts on Necro are that he's good when you're doing the omega pro stuff you should have been doing in D2 (Corpse Explosion, Bone Spear) and weak when you're doing the trap nooblet stuff you shouldn't have been doing in D2 (skeletons, golem).

And then you dropped the build because a hammerdin could get through magic damage immunities against demons and undead and they dealt more damage anyway.

Does the Tra(n)g'Oul set turn you into a vampire and bug your casting speed to something really low, but let you cast fire spells without synergies that make them essentially worthless?

Lightning was for trapsins, Meteorb Sorc for life.

Now that I think about it the visuals for MH Archon and trapsin are very similar, with the exception being that the Wiz herself is the trap.

Nah. If you wantes to mix elements, it was always better to go Lightning Orb because there were way fewer enemies with lightning immunity than fire immunity. And even then, once you're using a wand with Lower Resistance charges or giving an Infinity polearm on your mercenary, it's so much easier to just stick with a single element.

OK let me see if I can distill the responses into some decent guidance.

1> Add sockets to jewelry using Gifts and put big fat gems in them.
2> How do I get extra critical from gloves and rings?
3> Don't reroll secondaries, roll for sockets instead.

Is that about it? More sockets more gems more critical?

The Gift can only be used on weapons. You will have to use the enchanter to reroll a primary stat into a socket for your other items.

It is a rule that all of your items except for your off-hand (unless it's a weapon) should have their maximum number of sockets. This is non-negotiable.

I'm pretty sure I had it drop as recently as the current season.

You have "Have Materials" on the drop down menu for the blacksmith and don't have the bounty ingredients on hand. Probably.

Or "Highest Usable" and your character isn't at level 70.

All I want in 2.7 is the ability to vacuum up crafting materials since they don't take up stash space anymore and the ability to set a starting act when I make a game. I don't care if it's only unlocked upon purchase of an eighth class. I just don't want to start games in Bastion's loving Keep anymore.

There's probably an ISO around that you can find, but Diablo 1 isn't free in the same way that Blizzard has quietly made Blackthorne and Lost Vikings available for free.

The best thing to do is just buy a cheap copy on eBay. Diablo 1 should still come packed in with thhe Diablo II battle chest, which you can still find at Walmart for $20.

I honestly don't remember much of the game before RoS. I only played one class to nightmare, got one legendary item (lovely rolled goldwrap I think? tried to immediately sell it on the auction house :v:) and hit the difficulty wall very early and stopped played.

It kind of saddens me, I want to appreciate how much better the game is now.

Things began to get better in 1.0.4 a few months after the game's release. Many legendary items had their stats rolled up and gained legendary powers and it was the patch that paragon experience was introduced. They also rolled back a lot of the difficulty and made legendary items appear more frequently. It was incremental improvements onward until mid-2013 and then nothing until Reaper of Souls was about to drop.

Brood War does not have any kind of ability that automatically casts except for units turning and firing at an enemy if they're idle.

If such a change like that were to happen, it would inch the game closer toward StarCraft II's quality-of-life improvements and people would burn down Blizzard over it.
