Greetings, friends.

It has come to my attention that there are a lot of bad posts in the Debate and Discussion forum, most of them relating to politics in the United States and specific political figures from that country. We have had several threads dedicated to more specific discussion, because a broad US politics thread inevitably descends into slapfights over various election results, or worse, individual posters.

I am tired of reading these posts. You probably are, as well.

Which is why I'm stealing an idea.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: political deathmatch thread where trump, clinton, and sanders posters post and any political ranting outside the thread gets a probe

:siren: Welcome to the thunderdome, fuckers! :siren:

Here are the rules:

1. Posting is strictly limited to the topic of politicians in the United States of America and why certain politicians, or groups of them representing various ideologies, are good or bad.
2. This includes the current President of the United States, Donald J. "Deals" Trump. You can say the president is good here. Don't be surprised if you are mocked roundly for it.
3. Outright bigotry and fascism remain punishable. What constitutes this is up to moderator discretion.
4. This isn't a Helldump thread and shouldn't be used to litigate post histories or spread personal information. Your rear end is banned if it happens. But it is OK to make fun of people for posts in this thread.
5. The report function should be used for posts in this thread. This is not Hamsterdam for D&D. However! High-stakes posting means high-stakes modding. Relaxing some of the rules for this thread means that when I get reports or see dumb poo poo happening, punishment will be much, much worse. The minimum probation is one week. If posts get particularly bad, this minimum might change. Be warned!!!!

It's fine to suggest Democrats try to recapture the kind of popularity that LBJ and FDR enjoyed, but it's weird to assert their popularity was solely due to expanding social services and had nothing to do with their ideological defenses of free enterprise and capitalism and their interventionist foreign policy to defend the same across the world.

Thank you for posting this in the thunderdome. Dickhead.

I’m not really sure I agree with most of these, several of them are either state capitalist or have liberalized since the fall of the Soviet Union. Vietnam and Cuba are arguable, but the DPRK is much closer to feudalism than socialism.

They claimed for a long time to be self-funded Vermonters; however, a local paper is suing to find out who they actually are, because these people are professional actors who have been dox'd as out of staters, and the site itself has ties to conservative professor Howard Wall, and possibly to Koch money

Not a huge issue, but an obnoxiously local one for me.

this couldn't look more astroturfed if you had a koch brother stare into camera and say "I am funding this."

Dems are sometimes good, sometimes bad, but the DEMS ARE GOOD/DEMS ARE OUR HOPE/DEMS ARE GONNA DO THIS posts all slide right past that rule because they basically don't upset the feelings of the people who insist on the DEMS ARE BAD rule, which to be fair is the majority of the posters in the thread. It's as simple as that--one side of the debate gets to run wild in there, and even actively bait, as I've seen, the other side with "I bet Greenwald/VitalSigns is going to pop up in a second to tell us..." posts, and the impulse to respond is officially against the rules.
