Id like basketball more if it was more dunks & rebounds and less about 3pt shots but maybe its just a playoffs problem. I could also be underexposed

the playoffs usually have more defense because teams have time to sit down and analyze their opponent instead of having a generic defense for everyone with some wrinkles per team thrown in.

So better defense leads to more 3pt shots? If I read your post right then I guess I should follow regular season.

the regular season is incredibly cool and you would probably be a lakers fan because of all the incredibly stupid poo poo that comes from lonzo/javale and the old school pace and dunk from those guys plus rondo and lebon when they get back. i hate lance but he does stupid poo poo too and beasley is cool whenever he comes back.

to give a little perspective though, everyone in the nba has discovered that 3pt shots help you win, period, and you have teams like the rockets that just give the ball to harden and let him do his stepbacks and iso ball, or the spurs and warriors (not this years warriors though lol) that pass the ball around and either have enough shooters on the court or just a well enough executed offense that they can reliably get open 3pt looks. the flip side of this is that with expanded 3 point shots and reffing on close range plays you get incredibly high conversion percentages on dunks and layups. the 76ers, thunder, pelicans, clippers, and bucks are all fun to watch play in the paint.

the 76ers-suns game right now sounds incredibly bad. i couldn't find a suns stream so i'm listening to the radio but there's been like 16 fouls in 10 minutes and the suns are getting blown out

hifi
Jul 25, 2012

another thing is you should hop around on the different regional streams, the celtics and warriors announcers are bad but the lakers kings and suns are some of the best. national tv is a mixed bag with reggie miller and mark jackson being jason witten tier

this was the article i mentioned a while back: https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/12/what-does-beto-orourke-actually-stand-for
it's a different angle than just his voting record, and "white obama" seems pretty spot on, which i'm sad to come to realize doesn't include any kind of social issues that depend on funding. if i was like 10 years older then being in the bush era would be interesting. the only thing i remember politically was having a mock election in probably the third grade and being slightly upset that only like 2 people (myself included) voted for bob dole, although i did think he was responsible for the can of pineapples in my parent's pantry at the time.

One of our dev teams started containerizing their app without informing the infrastructure architects (my team). Ok cool, we'll just roll out a completely new build and deployment process for your snowflake project. When do you need it? Oh for this afternoon? Yeah that's not happening. They ended up just using the docker stuff for their dev sandboxes and deploying the app using the existing pipelines once they realized all the overhead that was involved. I'm all for playing with new toys, but you have to at least loop us in at the beginning. But because teams have started playing with Docker it got added to our roadmap for the year. Having used it in the past, I'm not exactly thrilled with it and I really fail to see how it gets us any sort of benefit.

this is basically what containerization is supposed to solve, lol. devs shouldn't control the deployment stack at all.

I have noticed that the "DevOps" role is gaining more and more traction and I should really probably get into coding more but man I really really don't want to. I honestly would love to get out of I.T. in general but I have no clue what I would even get into.

Im unemployed my man!

Devops started off as a management liaison role to help with actually separating developers from operations and take into account technology in business decisions (e.g, should we fix our email or work on replacing something that already works with the newest javascript tookit), although now you really have to look at salary and required skills and ask questions about the chain of command because the buzzword version of the job just has you doing dev and ops work. "the phoenix project" was the original executive thinkpiece about it that got everything started, it's a 200? page fiction piece that's a bit heavyhanded about the everyman programmer fixing all the stupid stuff people bitch about at work and making a tidy sum in the process.

If you don't want to do coding specifically there's always stuff like dba and dba-adjacent things like elasticsearch although i'm not sure being an accountant is a step in the right direction away from coding. cad work? i dunno what "computer operator" positions are easy to break into anymore.

i just don't like how something built as an easy to use limited scope tool always turns into some massive sprawling ecosystem where they invent checkboxes to add to bids on contracts. vmware started with workstation and now you have vSphere Cloud Go Suite that... does virtualization. it's the MS access of virtualization and some vm certified dork is probably going to explain how i'm wrong about how useful the mountain of products is but my point still stands.

Bootleg streaming sites are a never ending game of whack a mole as they get shut down. And is torrenting even really a thing anymore?

no way, streaming sites are in full effect now that companies have sold their platforms without any real security behind them, so most of the streams are straight up from the streaming company. my favorite story was when the nhl was testing 60fps streams and they might have rolled it out to a select few but generally not, so the pirate sites had better quality than you probably would have got from the actual nhl gamecenter thing. i think everyone gets around actual dmca requests by saying they aren't actually hosting any illegal content or just hosting everything in russia.

torrenting is still a big thing although it's poisoned by goon project syndrome plus an attempt to make it a double secret club with closed registrations and interviewing and strict rules for content and quality so you end up with stupid poo poo like a site for lossless JAVs with 2 users. the big sites just shovel whatever comes in from the scene straight into the furnace.
