there's a place a couple blocks from me that is just a fancy arby's, like artisanal roast beef sandwiches and curly fries. i don't have an arby's anywhere near me so i go there about once a month when i want a roast beef sandwich and curly fries. also, for some reason they sell beer and it's ridiculously cheap so from like 5pm-7pm on weekdays you often find a bunch of old dudes hanging out at the tables just drinking pbr out of plastic cups and eating curly fries

Also, important note about those Musk ventilators - they are actually ventilators, CPAP and BiPAP/VPAP are two very different technologies.

What they are is the exact wrong kind of ventilator for COVID-19 though.

They're not useless when you've got shortage of all gear for all patients, because you can use them for non-COVID-19 patients. They're usually not first choice, but they're better than nothing.

Musk making a big deal out of helping and having an answer that kinda sorta works but isn't really the best thing you could be doing is going to be the basis of a future storytelling trope with the sheer consistency the guy has.

are they? they look exactly like the ResMed S9 Elite with H5i Humidifier

Can't tell by looks, since ResMed makes so many devices with the same mold.

it's a very similar mold, but look at the difference between their noninvasive ventilator:

and what they actually have:

all the VPAP COPD ones have a small extra section between the H5i humidifier and the main device for the alarm. you can also see the text for the VPAP-COPD machines say VPAP-COPD, and whatever is written above the power button there is shorter in length.

I'm not defending Musk by giving him the exact amount of credit he deserves. He got the wrong tool for the job, but he didn't say he was going to get the right tool.

only if they had a production run that didn't say vpap auto on it as all their documentation does:

Are you sick of eating beans for weeks?

Then gently caress you, beans are life. But also, make quick pickles to accompany your beans. The vinegar, spices, and crunch will really liven up your rice and beans.

Quick pickles

Slice up some vegs. Thick slices for max crunch.
Carrots
Jalapenos
Onion
Garlic, just crush the cloves

Put the sliced vegetables in a large bowl and set aside.

Boil some brine (scale amounts so you have enough to cover vegs, but don't add veg yet).
1 cup water
1 cup vinegar (cider or whatever you got)
1 tbsp salt
Some spices, I suggest black peppercorns, crushed red pepper, coriander, mustard seed, allspice, couple cloves. All spices should be whole, not ground. I recommend going heavy on the coriander. Pickled coriander seeds are great on their own.

Boil the brine and spices for several minutes, then pour the hot brine over the vegetables. This will barely cook the surface of the carrots so they carry more flavor, but still keep their crunch.

Let cool, then store in the fridge. It'll keep for a long time (at least a few weeks). The garlic will turn blue-green. This is a normal chemical reaction to the vinegar, doesn't affect flavor.

If you use mustard seeds and/or bay leaf in your spices, they will keep the veggies crunchy longer, even if the veg is cut smaller.

If 1% of the population is going to die, then again, what is the loving point of doing anything? My point is how can you simaltaneously believe that the government is going to lie and cover up numbers, but also support draconian measures to stop the spread?

governments aren't even going to necessarily lie with a conscious choice. new york city is experiencing 10x the number of people dying at home every day as they do in a typical day, but tests are limited and do you waste a test on a dead person or do you use it on someone alive where the result may change the course of their treatment?
https://gothamist.com/news/surge-number-new-yorkers-dying-home-officials-suspect-undercount-covid-19-related-deaths

they do plan on eventually adding in the probable covid-19 deaths of people that died at home, but at this point, since those deaths aren't being tested for covid-19, they aren't being reported as such, so they get lost. you don't need the government to lie and cover up with intent if the test kits are limited enough that they have to choose between testing someone dead and someone alive. the numbers of deaths are a massive undercount, social distancing works, both are true.

NYC has been insanely aggressive with testing and it is still everywhere there. When we do more tests, we get more positives, which is a good thing in terms of mitigating the spread because now these people can hopefully stay the gently caress home.

very minor, but a couple things in this point are a few days out of date, the US as a whole now gets around 135k tests per day, with new york being the most aggressive ramp-up, resulting in their positive rate dropping DOWN to 40% after it had been up in the mid-50s percentage, that has dropped the overall national rate down to about 23% from where it was in the 25-30% before

this rules, i live in the area these poles are and i've not found yeast at stores for a weeks but we still have plenty of flour, and to keep a sourdough starter going, you have to toss like half or more of it out every day or something, putting it up where people can use it when there's no yeast instead of just throwing it away is good. i found and used some to leaven my pizza dough yesterday. and made my wife and myself a chorizo and anaheim pepper pizza with pesto sauce for like 3 dollars in ingredients. i guess i'm supposed to be keeping it alive instead of just using it, but whatever, as long as people keep stapling to light poles and as long as i don't have yeast but need some, i'm gonna just grab some and use it.
