Optismistic post. Washington and CA seem to have had success with bending their curves. Texas does not have a widespread epidemic right now and growth of confirmed cases and atypical are not exponential. NYC, NOLA, Detroit and Florida seem hosed though. The good news is it seems like quarantines work, but on a 3 week lag - April will suck, but it will get better.

xrunner posted:No. Bird flu was mostly a punchline and something everyone laughed at as a media hype. I don’t remember anyone who took it seriously H1N1 was swine flu not bird flu and was a big deal. The mortality rate was very low though, so there was no need to shut it all down because the risk of millions dying and overwhelming the medical system was low.

Like my favorite appointments are after a patient either went to the hospital or saw a specialist and have no idea what is going on. I translate it all for them and take the time to explain why this new medication will help them. How did you get roped in from being a PCP to a ICU hospitalist?

Tom Sellout posted:i stop obsessing over news for one day and Abbott announces he's sending people back to work. loving moron Eh, not really. He opened state parks but said you have to wear a mask and observe social distancing, rescinded order canceling elective medical procedures, and allows for "curbside retail" whatever the gently caress that is. The whole thing is a charade meant to placate big daddy Trump while actually not changing much at all.

SKULL.GIF posted:Barack Obama tried to murder me and hundreds of other Wisconsin goons for political gain I mean yeah, but not sure what it means for the types of retail places that are closed. Big box stores, hardware stores, grocery stores, pharmacies etc... are all open still. Places like Macy's are closed, but who would do the curbside thing instead of online for that? It is a nonsense order that is meant to maintain the social distancing orders put in place by the large cities and counties (all Dem) but allows Fox to have TEXAS IS OPENING headlines. Abbott, despite being a gigantic rear end in a top hat, is not an idiot - he is trying to placate his base full of idiots and avoid a primary challenge from his talk radio host Lt Governor.

All of these things are true: 1) Scrubs is good and funny and rewatchable 2) Ben Carson is a dumb CHUD outside of his narrow field 3) Ben Carson is a way better choice than Kushner for being in charge of a Coronavirus task force 4) Out of Trumps cabinet of morons, Carson is quietly doing the best job of anyone. I work with HUD regularly on affordable housing stuff and our chokepoint is not HUD, but local governments run by ostensible Democrats.

I enjoy it, the UP conductors are nice and wave to the toddler, and its cool to see the enormous cargo trains coming through a major a city.

Schools are still closed, just means their parents have to go to whatever job and will risk bringing COVID home to those already overburdened and traumatized children.
