klopp was put in a really lovely situation, by all admissions this was not consulted with any managers or players. Klopp had to make a statement as the first manager when faced with a difficult fixture in a cursed season. I wouldn't be too harsh on him unless he keeps toeing the line a day or two from now on.

He didn't have to have a meltdown and cry about how Gary Neville talking about "YNWA" should be illegal lmao.

There have been some references to pressuring one of the weak links, like Chelsea maybe, but wouldn't have the founders signed binding collective agreements to prevent this?

You can 100% guarantee nobody has signed anything remotely close to binding.

Please excuse my naive questions, but:
- Why are so many clubs in debt?
- Is it really not possible for clubs to continue to exist based on matchday tickets (assuming no covid) and merch?
- Is this in itself not damning for modern football?

e: i'm mainly thinking here about the non big 6 sides, thinking if the big 6 break away - why are they so hosed?

Man Utd are in massive debt because american owners bought the club through a leveraged buyout, making the club pay for the privilege of being owned by the cunts. As a result, the club has lost somewhere between £1-1.5billion over the past 15 years financing debt and paying dividends.

If their intention is for 15 permanent clubs, I don't understand why the 12 thought it was a good idea to announce. Why didn't they sew up the remaining 3 before making the announcement?

That's either inept or they are negotiating on a grand scale and I can't figure out which.

I think it was leaked. They probably didn't intend to announce it until end of season.

This is the bit I don't get, since when do billionaires give a poo poo about this kind of PR blowback? Usually they just act like they did nothing wrong and go on owning the thing you love/need and making buckets of money with it, because you can't stop them.

sounds like an impressively dumb time to sell

presumably those punishments will be tied to the club, not the owner? So whoever buys it will be in position to demand a steep discount considering the recent damage done.

This is like the inverse of Frank McCourt, which is pretty remarkable.

Again. This isn't america. This isn't how the normal world works.

I can’t wait to see FSG try to explain this. At best they were afraid that by not joining this silly plan they would repeat Liverpool’s financial work from the 90’s and get left behind. At worst they are greedy bastards with no understanding of football.

I wonder what’s most likely.

Everyone has been reporting that John Henry and Joel Glazer have been the driving force behind this in the UK.
