Now that I'm a day removed from the horrible order experience I'm excited but glad I'll have a chance to see reviews before my opportunity to order comes up (Q1 here).

I went with the 256GB mid-tier, and I was kind of surprised to see how much more popular the top-end 512GB version has been. I figured 256 is enough space for whatever games I'm currently playing and I can use the SD card for storage, or just rely on my good home internet speed. And I'm curious to see how distribution works out between the three models, it seems at least one of the preorder groups is bound to get screwed with only a trickle of their SKU being made.

Did you get your order in pretty early on Friday? The consensus I've seen is that no date means you're probably in the first batch that should ship in December.

I have very little interest in installing Windows on this thing. If Proton ends up being a mess I probably just won't buy a Deck at all. The older I get the less patience I have for troubleshooting and configuring poo poo

When I downloaded Metroid Dread it was on the SD card at first, load times improved dramatically when I moved it to the Switch. Monster Hunter had the same thing going on IIRC.

Is there reason to believe the Deck will have better SD performance than the Switch does?

All the battery complaints strike me as odd, because... what did they expect? What are we comparing it to? It sounds like it matches what Valve said it would do from the very beginning.

I bought the mid-range model the same way, solely based on storage and price (I thought 256 was enough and doubling that wasn't worth $120). The frosted screen and fancy case had basically zero value for me.

According to Reddit, yes. Somebody in the pinned thread has a nice chart tracking how far they get in each email batch and the US 512 is at +0:33 today.

The 256 queue seems to be moving about four minutes per batch so I ought to be getting my email in a couple more weeks.

Just unboxed my LE and the weight difference is the first thing I noticed when comparing it to my 256.

I'm also quite pleased that the new chassis feels more sturdy, noticeably less creaking and flexing than the old one (though maybe it will loosen up with time).

It looks fuckin cool but that power LED glowing through the plastic might get annoying, time will tell.
