If you want to be afraid of a supervolcano erupting, Mount Aso in Japan just got it's alert level raised. If it does erupt it's probably just going to be a small eruption like all the ones in the last few years, but it's at least an eruption!

will there be much warning before the yellowstone caldera happens?

probably at least a few weeks of "oh poo poo this things about to pop," on top of years or decades of uplift that would have been closely monitored. Yellowstone is one of the most closely monitored volcanoes on the planet.

Worth noting that it has actually erupted a few times since its last supereruption, ~70,000 years ago being the most recent eruption

sitting awake at night, telling myself that the reason that there are no bugs on my windshield after an 87 hour drive is because my F250 is more aerodynamic than cars 20 years ago

I remember going to visit my grandparents growing up, which was a ~6 hour drive on the freeway, and my dad always having to get out to clean the bugs off of the windshield when we stopped for gas. I don't remember ever really having to do the same since I started driving. Sure, some of that is the aerodynamics of a minivan vs a sedan, but I don't think that that is everything

You guys wanna crack and ping a bit? I remember when I was a lad, not only did I have to wash the windshield and the headlights every time we stopped at the gas station but there was a presence at the gas station, at every gas station - ominous, lurking anywhere food was served publicly.

But don't be fooled into thinking this was a silent menace because I'm talking about parking lot gulls, gently caress there were so many of them, screeching constantly and making GBS threads on your car and stealing food. Now there's a handful here and there, near dumps mostly.

I've had some pretty big dumps, never seen no gulls

TeenageArchipelago

I saw someone point out that if we could run everything in reverse, i.e. having cars that sucked CO2 out of the air, dropping it off at gas stations, where it was mixed with other materials and pumped into the ground, the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere would be a problem of such immense scale that it would still take decades to fix

They wrote it better, but still

I don't know if this was posted in the thread, but it was an interesting video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX2aZUav-54

basically, the natural gas industry realized that the only thing that people even vaguely liked about natural gas was gas stoves, so they have a whole push to promote gas stoves to ensure that the gas infrastructure gets built into new buildings and lets people use natural gas heating/water heaters
