I'm very excited to see how Rall deals with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I anticipate either ignoring it or sniveling in defense of his financial overlords.

Very real chance he (and others?) will just buy in on (Eastern) Ukraine being mostly Russians anyway, so it makes sense that it should be Russia again. Probably dressed in "the people feel Russian".

This conveniently allows any intervention against Russia to be framed as opposition to the will of the people.

It's back to the roots of libertarianism though. Precious metals having inherent value is a core tenant of classic libertarianism. It's incredibly dumb, because outside of jewelry (and electronics recently), gold and silver were used as currency precisely because they didn't actually have any use besides being used for trade. It's just analogue fiat, but libertarians believe it's God given or something.

I don't know if you've noticed, but Russia has a slightly different approach to critical media than North America and the rest of Europe.

This is another cartoon where you have to be super duper transphobic to "get". To someone normal it's just a trans woman using the bathroom and no one is hurt by it.

Not sure I can agree there, the trans woman has a beard, along with arm and leg hair (which women obviously don't have...) and is a gigantic oaf, for lack of a better term. It's pretty clearly understandable as "bloke in a dress".

I'm not agreeing with the point, but the intended reading of "trans women are just (pervy) men in dresses" is quite obvious.

Also the hurting is done by violating a female only space in this logic. I'm pretty sure that most people, unconsciously at least, believe that the ladies room is off limits to men, and that any man entering is a violation. Again, this is bullshit obviously, but commonly accepted bullshit.

BonHair

The idea that a man in a dress is a pervert is the transphobia that you have to be bought into to see it as bad.

Yeah, my point is that it's something that Western Culture as a whole has been buying into for a while, so his entire potential audience can pretty much be assumed to have bought into it, unless they have actively rejected the link between man in a dress and perversion (in which case they are no longer the intended audience).
In conclusion, society is bad, in a way that makes the dumb comic understandable to most people.

Well, no, it's accurate. All languages are made up, they're just arbitrary sounds that humans assigned to objects and ideas over time and by agreeing what sounds correspond to which thing we're able to communicate complex ideas quickly as a species.

There's no innate reason for a "dog" to be a "dog", and in other places it isn't a "dog" at all it's "perro" or "chien" or "inu". However, if enough people all agree to think of the same thing when they each say "dog" then they're able to communicate and understand the idea of a "dog" immediately without having to come up with a way to describe it every time they want to talk about it.

It's accurate in a dumb way though. The point of a language is that you have a community agreeing what stuff means, which means that new words have to be accepted by the speech community before they're meaningful, or real so to speak.
Calling pronouns fake is just perfectly cromulent shorthand for then not being recognized by the (general Anglo) speech community.

Compare to currency, which is equally made up. I can't just make up a new currency and expect to be able to buy bread with it, at least until you get enough idiots to join on it.

As for pronouns, I still believe that the right solution is to just abandon he/him/his entirely and only use she/her for everyone regardless of gender. But that's never gonna get accepted.

That said, it's an understandable metaphor. Biden means economy bad, Trump good, is the intuitive and intended reading.

Not only do they still make gendered bikes, but they also make sure to only make the boys' models in my size (185cm). It's pretty dumb, the structural advantage is negligible, but besides occasionally wearing a dress/skirt/kilt/robe, having a lowered bar makes it so much easier to dismount even carrying large items on the back, such as a child.
