At the least this particular one is about actual natural disasters and people who are suffering and need help, because most times it's like "we're sorry for those middle eastern folks getting bombed... and they're sorry for us, because look at how high our gas prices are!!"

Drug use has also been present pretty much everywhere, even if you're not counting alcohol as a drug. Yeah, the USSR cracked down pretty hard on these things, but they were always there

When you say things like this, that's absolutely not the case. Even if the USSR were some sort of utopia (and it was not), people still fall through the cracks. If you have data that points to a significant reduction of those things, sure, that might have been a thing, but there's no situation where you're going to completely eliminate drug use, prostitution, homelessness and unemployment in any large modern society.

And I want to be perfectly clear so that nobody attempts to misconstrue what I'm saying: I believe that the invasion of Ukraine is wrong and bad and that the Russian leadership should be held accountable for war crimes. But the Russian people are not the ones responsible for this and do not deserve to be dehumanized. They are victims of this war just as well.
