I dabbled in reddit from time to time. Was a good source of faster replies for niche searches. But since the blackout thing, the few subs I went to were "private", so I just Uninstalled the app. Lol. I didn't even know there were 3rd party apps. Really feel like le reddits hosed themselves.

Saoshyant posted:Yes. If you are seriously trying to bring new users into the site, at least replace the frontpage temporarily using a basic template with recent threads on the middle of the page, two icons to download the different mobile apps on the top, and a big "all this with a one time payment and no ads" button at the bottom. Basic stuff but it makes a huge difference. I am prepared to update the front page. What are your thoughts on MS Publisher, and clip art... lots of clip art? Edit to add: And. Nuebot posted:One thing to keep in mind is that like on youtube and other sites, Reddit tends to use NSFW for more than porn. So removing/banning all NSFW content is basically going to obliterate a lot of LGBT content, or discussions and help for abuse and things like abortion, and other relatively sensitive topics. *the who guy songs his line* The old boss is like the new bosssss!!! Lol. So, as someone said earlier, while this whole lil shindig might not immediately kill the site, it can certainly lead to brain drain , and talent loss. I mean, the overlap of a venn diagram of people that can moderate even half somewhat decent, and the people that would be willing to do it for free can NOT be very big.

CaptainSarcastic posted:I do feel some sympathy for people dismayed by Reddit's decline, and maybe even a little for people mourning Twiter (Twitter is so bad I struggle with sympathy for its users, though). For me, the biggest loss was when Yahoo! shut down the Yahoo News Message Boards. Like with so many other things, Yahoo! was pretty much first to implement something that later took off when done by somebody else. The News Message Boards accidentally became a huge social media site, but Yahoo! didn't know what they were doing and axed it, and know that big chunk of online history is effectively memoryholed. I really 100% wish legitimate organizations, like news, politicians, and businesses, would stop using Twitter.
