A grand a month per child was normal when the pandemic hit. My lads nursery shut in April, and we had to look after him until he started school in September. We saved six grand. (Work was amazing and basically gave us the time off paid as childcare, me doing these days a week and the wife two. There are some advantages of being public sector) I can see fifteen hundred to two grand now, post inflation.

Scientastic posted:New PM tomorrow? Go on you coward, make it a confidence vote. Bring on the election. The bill has next to no chance of going through before the election, even if they do pass it today, it'll be blocked by the lords. Every day they try and cling to power, the weaker they look.

The Perfect Element posted:The tories don't give a solitary gently caress about immigrants, they just want to show humber going down so they can temporarily appease their voters. The fun thing is, none of this will have enough time to have any effect before the election, so they can make these sweeping changes, then when they are no longer in power, they can just point to the huge figures and say "We had a plan for this"

The Question IRL posted:Not only did Voyager come out before the BSG remake, the same producer (Ronald D. Moore) worked on both. IIRC, he wanted to do BSG because he wasn't allowed to do the survival thing in voyager. A big part of that was that the network didn't want the damage to be persistent because they would've had to keep refilming the panning shots of the ship all the time.

I just got a leaflet through the door from the local Tory MP. Looks like election season has begun! And me without my elephant gun!

At this point just getting rid of he populist nutjobs and getting a few years of boring will be an improvement. In the current political system you don't get to vote for what you want, just against what you hate.

escapegoat posted:My personal hope is that Starmer is enough of a windsock to bow to public pressure. There are stats that say that Millennials and below are not turning right in anywhere the numbers the previous generations did. (Boomers went right a lot harder than any other generation). There is a hope that the Torys get destroyed enough that they are out for two election cycles, and after ten years the voting makeup will have changed. escapegoat posted:My personal hope is that Starmer is enough of a windsock to bow to public pressure. There is also this - as we've gone on, Cameron's centralist party has been replaced by right wingers - there is a good chance that public and backbench pressure could shift Starmer more and more left as things go on. Of course. Trying to predict politics is a mugs game.

Gonzo McFee posted:Looking at the number of people who voted it's not a huge gain of Labour voters so much as just the complete collapse of Tory votes. Labour gained 107 votes in Wellingborough. The Tories lost 24,869. It's not a huge gain of democracy, it's a huge number of people being completely turned off after the media decided it was safe to notice the Tories are poo poo. I guess you could say, what's the point in voting in a bi election with a general election coming so soon.

Get Hoyle to step down, then replace him with someone from the SNP. That would lead to some amazing PMQ's.
