IGN’s review is more mixed. They like the game, but note that pawns continue to die in frustrating ways, the camera often fights against you (especially when climbing), and notes that performance can chug as multiple enemies pile into a combat.

Review is for the PS5 version.

So this video has some kind of confusing information about stats. The information we've been repeating is that when you change your vocation it just sets your stats to some arbitrary value based on your level, so level however you want.

The video is saying that your stats actually do increase based on the class you're in when you level up, but that changing vocation will set them to certain minimums to keep you from screwing yourself too much.

Have any of the other videos today touched on how the stats work?

Anyway I've done another two caves and a bunch of side area since they vanished so I think I'm just going to become a career spelunker instead of looking into any of this "arisen" business

My guards have also disappeared after a harpy attack. Going to look around to see if I can find them.

Is there something obvious I’m missing here? Feels super weird and still throws me off.

Change the Button Icon type to B and it should map the prompts correctly.

do I need to do anything particular to have my pawn be hireable by random people playing the game, or is the simple act of playing the game automatically seeding her into people's rifts? Can people be using her when I'm also online using her, or will she only get use when I'm offline?

Your Pawn is always available, though their status only updates when you sleep at an Inn (not at campsites). You do have to go into the Rift to set their Pawn Quest though once someone completes the initial "hang out with my pawn for a day and a night" quest.

Multiple people can use your pawn at once, and they never disappear from your own game (though they will start talking to you about stuff they learned in other people's games).

does current vocation change what stat gains you get on level up? And if so, does switching vocation retroactively change all those previous stat gains to match what they'd be if you'd always been the new one?

Your stat gains depend on which Vocation you are currently in, but changing a Vocation will reallocate some of your current stats into the stats important for that Vocation. Eventually (like at max level) that means that everything will even out, but in the short-term you will be slightly less effective as you hop from Vocation to Vocation.

That being said, it's much much much less noticeable than it was in DD1, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Walk out the front door and oh poo poo it's a manticore AND we're standing in a bunch of water. That ended up being a knock down, drag out fight because I've been trying to do some different comps other than the standard and had 2 Thieves and a Fighter with me being an Archer.

Thankfully charged shots to the heads are a great way to knock a manticore to their knees because I was quickly running out of healing items.

Just some random thoughts:

1) Plunder on my Thief pawn has been a lot of fun. Yeah it's mostly garbage (and the random silver ore) but I'm easily amused at the other pawns going "hell yeah, nice work stealing".

2) I completely misunderstood the tutorials and didn't realize I could use Left Button + Skill to let the game auto-aim Archer abilities that aren't the basic Loose Arrow. Less damage than aiming for weakspots, but it's quite nice when things get chaotic and I just want to spam Torrent and watch goblins get stunlocked.

I did it in the highish 20s with a mostly maxed out first vocation (Archer). You'll want to follow a guide if you're skipping the story quests, and if you have the RC hiring some stronger pawns helps a lot for encounters you don't run from.

Man, after playing the starting melee classes trying out Archer is so weird to play, especially with a controller.

Any tips to play this class better?

It feels like i'm doing something wrong playing it since my damage output is massively reduced since I switched over, i'm more used to how archery worked in DD1.

Left Shoulder + Skill will auto target your skills, while Right Shoulder + Skill allows for manual targeting. So Left is good for smaller things or if you're running around a lot, Right is great for nailing weak points and trying to knock down big guys.

Good skills:

Barrage/Manifold - use this on downed enemies
Torrent/Tempest - you'll likely replace Barrage/Manifold with this once you get it

Dire/Deathly - good for downing big guys, slams little guys around. Launch it as soon as your character flashes white for maximum power.

Whirling/Spiral - does continual damage to whatever it sticks into, so good for sticking into weak spots of big guys or using to clear crowds

Your other skill is probably going to be one of the debuff arrows, depending on what pawns you're with. I always liked Exploding/Erupting because it can set big guys on fire.

When would you actually want to use the weird zoom-in Archer skill? Getting a couple shots on a target from far away before a fight starts doesn't seem worth a skill slot.

I usually go with the DoT skill, the rapid-fire one, explosive arrow, and either Deathly Shot or another specialty arrow (probably the latter in the late game where I have plenty of them).

Speaking of specialty shots, how good is applying Blight to enemies? It's a DoT as a poison I'm guessing? Seems like the sort of thing that would either be really good or really useless.

Edit: Unrelated, but the lack of a "transmog" is really bugging me in the late-game, because the various armor and weapons are so cool looking. It's just a huge waste. I know you can just eat the stat loss (since it's not exactly super hard to begin with), but at that point it might as well just allow you to choose the appearance.

I took Lycean Sight initially because I thought it would either let me work as a sniper hitting things in the head for big damage, or let me use Explosive Arrow from way outside of range (like the Magick Archer's Flamefang Arrow. Neither turned out to be the case, so I ended up dropping it since combat always happens pretty close in when I'm trying to support my melee pawns.

I wish someone would dig in and pull out the actual damage formulas for these skills. I know there's a mod that shows damage numbers, but I kind of want to know if using Deathly Shot is better because it has more knockdown.

Thundarr posted:

Archer rules and the only reason I am unlikely to main it after maxing everything else is because magick archer exists (and also sorcerer, for those times I want to drop meteors on the heads of everything in visual range).

One of the two mods I have installed shows you the numerical value of your pawn's affinity. The threshold for 'is in love' is 620 or so. I'm on my phone but think it's just called Main Pawn Affinity on Nexus.

You gain affinity by talking to your pawn, giving them high fives, taking them to the hot springs, and (especially) giving them makeovers, but it's all on a cooldown so you can't just spam these.
The only way to lose affinity is by letting them die, especially if it's the result of them going nuclear.

The mods "Show Favorability For Everyone" and "Show main pawn favorability" will both show your main pawn's affinity, while "Faster Pawn Affinity" will lower the threshold from 620 to something more reasonable if you're not constantly grinding and high-fiving your pawn.

Since the quest rewards are duplicated if multiple people do your quest before you check in at the Inn, it is probably to keep certain items from being cloned to the point of uselessness.

To my knowledge you can't offer the following as rewards: Ferrystones, Port Crystals, Gold Trove Beetles, Seekers Tokens, a lot of equipment that sells for over 10k (the gems are an exception).

You can still give them as gifts though, because that doesn't allow for them to duplicate, and you can ask FOR them as your Pawn Quest.
