You see little glimpses of his indie self in NXT/205 Live matches where he is just a stiff wild madman who is willing to kill himself as long as he can kill his opponent too. i can't speak for his non-PWG work, but i assume much of the same. the real tragedy is that he never got to have his match vs. Super Dragon bc Dragon got injured in his last match, which was pretty darn good. if Biff got let loose i bet he'd be a bit more rounded and still as crazy, so hopefully he does leave soon!

Plus, my memory is kind of fuzzy as to whether Gabe was actually at fault or not, but when PROGRESS did their New York show back in 2017, they had a venue that was so hot, a fan passed out if I recall and they also had transportation issues after the show and maybe that was Gabe's fault? But that's been 3 years now, so don't quote me on that. Dude's had a great eye for talent and a pretty solid creative mind, but every other aspect of Gabe seems miserable.

I vaguely remember on commentary they kept putting over the fact that Gage was really looking forward to his match vs. Shinjiro Otani at Spring Break last year, which that match was probably as far away from deathmatch wrestling as you can get and just shows his love for the business. And as mentioned, his Beyond stuff has been great, especially him in Nerder Death Kill. My favorite matches of his are the ones where he wrestles his opponent's style of match then will do a dash of deathmatch here and there. His match vs. Effy at a GCW show last year was one of my favorites of the year. He genuinely seems like he's overcome his demons and just a really good dude, especially in recent interviews when he isn't kayfabing. But I could rave on and on about Gage forever. I'm glad he got the treatment he needed in prison and it really helped him as well as having folks like Lauderdale on his side. In a way, I guess it's also good he got arrested when he did and getting released around the same time social media was blowing up for indie wrestling and streaming was becoming more of an option, making it a bit more feasible to do non-deathmatch stuff. Really hope Gage does well whenever he hangs the boots up.

Plus I think Chuck has said that he hates that the name Chuck Taylor stuck. Not sure if he was serious or not, but he did have that angle in EVOLVE where he went by Dustin before they gave up on it.

Yeah, WCW only used him in February of that year if I recall and I don't think he was released until October. ECW probably let him shake off some ring rust/get some exposure then he'd be off to NJPW the next year.
