quote:

The diary of Jim, a 52 year old businessman who suddenly finds himself single and goes Internet Dating for the first time in his life.

Extracts from the Diary of an Internet Dater are events in a year of Internet Dating by Jim, a 52 year old businessman who's always been around younger women. His wife was 15 years younger than him, whom he divorced fourteen years ago and with his last partner (they never married - just lived together) with whom he had a 12 year relationship, was 13 years younger than him.

He suddenly finds himself single after that 12 year relationship ends. Jim has never done Internet Dating before, and embarks on a journey to meet that special partner that is both funny and sad at times.

You can read extracts from the diary at https://www.hotbabedates.com

Funding is required to produce a substantial (5,000) hard back print run in order to promote the book globally to potential regional distributors. Additionally the opportunity to promote and sell directly to independent booksellers and book clubs. Funds raised include all proposed marketing costs and supporting promotional material. Once the funding level has been achieved a production order will be placed and our 5,000 print run should be completed within 4 weeks of ordering. Once printed distribution to targeted parties as above will commence. This process should take a further four weeks.

they way that they're used here, in the context of this computer game, just seems like a convenient excuse for the developers to dick around with the player

that said i've never played a s.t.a.l.k.e.r. before, did the "real" ones do it too and make it work? maybe this works in practice better than i'm imagining, in which case i'd be happy to be wrong

they aren't really to dick around with the player, they're more ways to punish you for not paying attention, or block off routes in a kind of natural way

it's usually a floating ball of distorted light that if you walk into you take a bit of damage and maybe get knocked about. a lot of times there's a bunch of them in an area and throwing bolts is how you find a safe route

this is the horseshit fantasy of every suburban housewife

the best restaurant meals are produced by precise adherence to a recipe, with all tasks performed by experienced craftsmen. those flavors and experiences are possible specifically because there are no substitutions and no fuckups

every idiot dreams of being such a good cook that it's effortless and any given ingredient just magically shines. but that's not how real life works. if you want to do something more complicated than meat and potatoes and have it come off reliably, you're gonna have to suppress your urge to improvise

unsurprisingly i sometimes enjoy cooks illustrated, the epitome of "gently caress you" to improvisation

i'm pretty sure a restaurant wants to be consistent so people will know what they're going to get every time

great, you can produce some very basic meals without a recipe. that's a useful skill. but it's not how other people will judge your cooking. those ad-hoc meals are gonna be scattershot at best. sometimes it will be wonderful. sometimes it's merely edible. sometimes it doesn't even reach that level.

mastering technique without systematizing your work will not get you anywhere.

nobody, not even professionals, turns out truly great meals while futzing around with the ingredients on hand. they work hard to build repeatable processes.

no you're just an idiot that's bad at cooking

if you look at pretty much any good recipe it usually includes "to taste" somewhere, because they know that even the best recipe will be subjective at best, and variable due to ingredients available; maybe the stock you have on hand is a little weak, so you need to add more salt. what if you like more heat in a curry or something? add some more peppers.

the adage that cooking is art and baking is science tends to hold true in a lot of cases
