Has anyone encountered weird problems after updating to ASIS 1.42.3 or 4? I've had a couple reports of not being able to interact with npcs or dialogue options not showing up but tracking down issues from nexus comments is basically impossible.

I'm using 1.42.4 and have not had any issues accessing conversations or dialogue options. I have had issues with dialogue stuttering, but that's probably an unrelated problem.

So I've decided, once again, to waste a week modding the hell out of Skyrim and then never playing it and uninstalling everything. However, when I go to download mods using the "Download NMM" button, I get this:

I've got MO to link my Nexus account and clicked the "Associate with 'Download with Manager' links" and this hasn't happened before, and I have no idea about anything. I can still download manually, but that is awful and :effort: Anyone know how to fix?

In Mod Organizer, go to Settings > Workarounds, and check what version of NMM is being used. If you're using an outdated version ID of NMM, you can get an "access denied" error. Try using 0.52.2 if it's not in the field already. If that doesn't solve the issue, I don't know what else it would be.

I never got around to beating Skyrim when it came out and my old saved games are long gone. The OP appears to have last been updated in February. What awesome bugfix mods do I need to install to have the Perfect Bethesda RPG Experience?

I think the OP is still relevant. Start with the bug fixes and patches and work your way up from there. There is no One True Modded Experience really, it's just a matter of asking yourself while playing, "What would make this game better?" and then looking for a solution on :nexus:. For some people, the answer is "This game needs SPERG and lighting overhaul!" for others, it's "This game needs flame-spewing genitalia!"

I'm actually considering digging out my Oblivion disc, because I was reminded today that Nehrim exists and I realised I'd never really given it a fair shake when it came out. I know this isn't an Oblivion thread but can anyone weigh in on that mod?

The overworld is really dense and has tons of different biomes. The dungeon interiors are fantastic and really push the limits as to what I expect out of that engine. Being a huge total conversion mod, it's a bit janky in all places but surprisingly not too bad all things considered. The story is a enormous mess with a pansy elf boy taking center stage, but if you like Kirkbride-esque confusing poo poo you might get a kick out of it. It's been years since I played it, so I may just be exaggerating how incoherent the story is.

Really the environmental detail is the best part about Nehrim. Don't go into it expecting it to fix the combat system or the potato faces.

Edit: Oh, and all the dialogue is subbed from German. I don't know if that matters.

Are they? I mean, they're going to be separate landmasses and there's no exact date for Enderal's release, so I don't see why he shouldn't give it a shot just to see if he likes it.

I think it's actually kind of surprising that no one else has tried to make a similar game. You'd think the success of Elder Scrolls would lead to others trying to copy the formula. TES is basically a genre unto itself, and it's unfortunate that Bethesda basically has a monopoly on that genre.

There have certainly been attempts, Two Worlds, Kingdoms of Amalur and the more recent Dragon Age: Inquisition all feel like they are taking heavy cues from TES. A huge limiting factor on more competition from appearing is budget--these games are basically single-player MMOs and require resources so immense and a division of labor so large, it can be easy (while still frustrating) to see how these games release as giant messes of code tenuously held together with wishful thinking.

Trick Question posted:

My biggest problem with Skyrim combat, other than than how floaty and slow it is which I think is unfixable, is that usually all the enemies in a dungeon will either be cardboard (which is boring) or giant walls of meat that can killmove you from full health (which is also boring, but in a different way). Do any of the combat mods actually fix that? Like, smooth it out a bit? Most of them just seem like they make combat baseline harder, which isn't really what I want.

Also, are there any good mods that add a dodge? Dodges are fun.

I think Deadly Combat has a dodge feature, but yeah there's nothing I know of that addresses the terrible, floaty, spongey orgy that is the combat.

Here's a mod that claims to make combat more like Dark Souls, but I doubt it's as effective as I hope. I have to do a big reinstall of my mods so I haven't tried it yet.

TK HitStop adds artificial weight to combat by creating frame delays on hits, giving melee combat a bit more impact.

Edit: There's a TK Dodge mod as well, which I'm guessing is lighter than DC

Could you elaborate on that? I'm thinking of playing Oblivion again, and Better Cities was one of the mods I was interested in trying.

I think the biggest thing is that there's several conflicts between Better Cities and Unique Landscapes, another popular overhaul. That's where you'll run into stuff like missing cells and game crashes unless you install compatibility patches and get your mod order properly sorted.

Other than that, just make sure you download all the dependencies the mods ask for. A lot of big Oblivion mods have their resources split up over multiple downloads, and won't work if you just download the first package using the default "Install with NMM" button.
