I'm pretty sure young voters not having much personal experience with Hillary is going to matter much, the Clinton name has enough cachet in the popular conscious that I find it unlikely that young voters will approach her like an unknown quantity. Even better for her, the specifics of things like Clinton welfare reform or her abortive attempt at healthcare reform get lost in the haze of time and all that remains is the economic glow which surrounds the Clinton name.

Remember, "demographics" is a made-up socialist fake science, like climatology. It should be noted that there's a strong possibility Cruz doesn't actually believe this, it's just an awfully convenient narrative when he's one of the few big names left that still have a lot of cred with the crazy vote.

Joementum posted:She cruises. This is actually bad news for the Sanders "campaign" because without any in-party opposition it's harder for him to get a debate platform against Hillary to advance his agenda. Democrats need to take a page from professional wrestling and have a mysterious masked opponent who shows up at debates to double team Hillary with Sanders. At the last debate they're unmasked and it was Bill the whole time! Hillary then elbow drops his rear end and climbs the ladder to grab the nomination.

That means they actually found the ugly things, and they didn't spend anything close to what will get spent if he's an actual candidate. If Christie has such huge, obvious weaknesses, why is he considering running? Is it misplaced confidence or maybe the belief that even if he loses his career comes out ahead?

If she had actually been a real conservative firebrand instead of grifter he might have made a stronger go of it but the reality was no Republican was going to beat Obama that year. He might have had a chance in 2008 if the economy hadn't fallen apart in the middle of the campaign like a car in a slapstick comedy movie.

Does he actually think he can win, or is this a book deal and tv pundit circuit golden parachute he's going for? It's hard to tell these days. I mean his announcement in itself is bizarre, but he's announcing so far out, way before anyone else. It just seems strange.

It's not something that lines up with the rest of his ideology either, like Paul and his faux-noninterventionism. I'm assuming some rich Latino paid him to say that, considering his HPV vaccine stuff. His policy positions probably change day in and day out as he forgets and remembers bits and pieces of where he stands on the issues.

He supports Israel with the occasional slight admonishment when the number of UN designated shelters being blown up gets too high to ignore. With the personal antagonism that seems to exist between Hillary and Bibi, Sanders might somehow be the pro-Israel candidate between the two, not that that means much. He seems to be softly anti-nuclear power. No statements that he wants a hard bans but questioning subsidies to the industry and throwing up regulatory roadblocks.

Christie is in a bit of a bad spot right now. Not only has the whole bridge thing just been introduced back into the headlines, but a deal he brokered years ago on state pensions has been shown to be unworkable. He now either has to clash with state unions and lose the centrist cred that was part of his appeal, or raise taxes to cover some of the pension costs and lose any hope of a Republican presidential nomination.

Skwirl posted:If he's hoping to be the Republican nominee, getting into a public fight with unions isn't a bad idea. Literally the only reason people outside of Wisconsin know who Scott Walker is, is because of how badly he hosed unions in Wisconsin. Yeah it'd be a big boost among a lot of the base, but his whole deal has been that he's the "sane" "electable" potential candidate who would be able to cross the aisle and get stuff done. If he starts tilting away from that he kind of loses that thing that made him distinct among the other people mulling over a run. Though word is that he's got too many skeletons in his closet to ever have actually had a chance anyway.
