I put together a Triarch Stalker kit this past week or so.

Painted the cockpit in sub assemblies to make it easier to do the Praetorian and his control panel but when I started to glue things together the front of the cock-pit and the metal panels just wouldn't line up and I couldn't figure out what this was the result of.

Anyways, I tried to disguise the misalignment enough with some bits so that it doesn't look dumb. Hope I succeeded!

When using corkboard for bases is there a way you guys arrange it so it doesn't, you know, look like a bunch of layers of corkboard stacked on top of one another?

Do I just buy thicker corkboard?

AndyElusive

The Moon Monster posted:

Get a knife and "weather" the edge of the corkboard such that the two layers blend into each other.

Sab669 posted:

In addition to Moon Monster's suggestion of weathering the edge with a knife, chip out pieces across the top in general so it's not just a straight flat surface.

This really helped, weathering the edge really went a long way to make it look less like corkboard and more like rock. So thanks for this suggestion.

Ya it's these little guys: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06XCZDV15/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_eSdNFbM6CQEQA

You don't NEED them, because I decanted like my first 30 or so paints without them but using one reduces nearly any chance that you'll spill.

AndyElusive

That's such bullshit, I'd have been pissed.

These 15ml ones should be enough for most Citidel paints: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088PDC22V/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_oXdNFb51M5ZV5

You'll want 20ml or 30mls for larger paints like contrast paints or whatever.

I finally got off of my rear end and started finishing my Reaver titans. The first three are now done. They are named The Red Bull, Baba Yaga, and Knochensammler (bone collector)

I'm really happy with how they turned out.

The Red Bull. The art on the carapace and the crown around the head are both inspired by The Last Unicorn

I also put a dying/dead World Eater in the canal before I did the water pour.

Knochensammler. It is a bit hard to see due to the vegetation, but it is stepping out of the woods and stomping through an Imperial Guard artillery battery, with figures fleeing in terror.

Finally, Baba Yaga. I had a lot of fun making the train derailment scene. Z scale trains are perfect for Titanicus.

I'm building a Deathwatch army and I'm considering ways to create a variety of Chapter insignias if I don't want to keep buying bits or Shapeways. One of the methods I thought about was making my own water slide decals.

But it seems like a slightly daunting task that requires some planning and equipment.

Does anyone have any good tips/videos/tutorials handy?

I used these decal sheets. I must've seen someone recommend these at some point, because I copied the link to my notes and came across it again a few weeks back. Here's the packaging/instructions, in case you're curious:

Printing off the decals was a cinch. Didn't have to change any of the settings on the printer, just plopped the sheet in there like a normal piece of paper. Unfortunately the color on the decal sheet came out a little darker than my test sheet and darker than the color I was trying to mimic (Vallejo's Bloody Red).

(decal sheet on the left, test sheet on the right; the pauldrons in the middle were some color tests and freehand dicking around I did, but that color red is what I was going for)

I'm not sure if this is because of the printer I used (admittedly not the best), a characteristic of the decal sheet, or if I simply picked a shade that was too dark to begin with. In any event, I didn't have access to image editing software when I printed them off, so I couldn't adjust fire.

Applying the recommended Microscale Liquid Decal Film with a paintbrush is also super easy. It's pretty thick--so much so I was worried it was.going to dry in streaks and globs--but it spreads around really well and dries invisible.

I'm about to head out for the evening, so I'll follow up again tomorrow when I try applying some of these.

Awesome. This is all great and super helpful. Hopefully the decal application ends up going well.

Do you use an inkjet or a laser printer?

Here's the follow-up. I tried putting one of the arrow symbols on a test pauldron and quickly discovered the ink on the decal sheet is translucent rather than opaque. The result is this:

What was supposed to be red (same color as the design around the edges) turned into purple when placed on the turquoise base color. Turns out I should've bought the white decal sheet rather than the clear one.

Laser. Not sure if there's an appreciable difference between the two for something like this, but laser is all I have access to.

Oh hey I missed this. Well that's a shame. Are you planning on getting white decal sheets? If so, is there a particular brand you're looking at?

I'm trying to see if I can snag a cheap ink jet through FB Marketplace and even though you use laser, I might try to copy your method.
