Have any of you played this? A supernatural investigation Phoenix Wright-eqsue game sounds potentially fantastic.

My logic is that even if 0's not as good, it doesn't retroactively make the original worse, and I like those characters.

food court bailiff posted:Probably two thirds of ZTD is very good, but the true ending is super bad and it retroactively made me dislike even the stuff that was fun initially. The whole setup seemed a lot more fun than 999/VLR but I don't feel like it was explored nearly as well - which is a shame because of the deep ties to VLR. This is 100% my view. The end makes the rest of the game worse, and really soured my memory. There are bits that are genuinely very cleverly set up, but they're not enough to save itself from its ending. As for whether or not it's a VN, I guess not. Not really sure what it would come under though. An adventure game?

The issue is the story. I'm not sure more money would have saved it. Personally, I didn't have any problems with the presentation.

Double Punctuation posted:I think of the characters as the staff and actors in a movie. At that point, they’re discussing a previous shooting and various changes they could make to the performance. I think that's more true of Higurashi. Keiichi is regularly referred to not be present because he's too busy learning the next script (and doesn't have a sprite). E: Well, more consistently true. I guess the Umineko Tea Parties are deliberately twisting on the format of the Higurashi All Cast Reviews. CottonWolf fucked around with this message at 09:11 on Jul 11, 2018 |

Nate RFB posted:IMO Higurashi is worse at getting started because the first couple of chapters were amongst the first things that the author had written and he spends a lot of time faffing about with the club's silly antics before getting into the meat of the story. The chapters are also a fair bit shorter than most of the later ones (as well as Umineko) so it's not the end of the world, though. I think Watanagashi suffers from that most, because you’re coming off Onikakushi, which has the advantage of being “new” and you don’t know where it’s going, so the the club stuff doesn’t drag, but Watanagashi doesn’t have that excuse. By Tatarigoroshi he’s got his head in and is writing the normal life stuff in a way (that I least I felt) isn’t dull. Watanagashi’s by far the worst of the question arcs IMO.
