Yes, it has a party system, I think they're just called squads.

Can players claim planets? Build fleets to control systems? Or is it just a big star system map that persists in perpetuity without changing? Can we eventually build a deathstar and destroy a planet and it will stay dead? Launch nukes into a sun and create a black hole?
Will there be scripted events between warring factions, pirate interactions. I heard Chris talk about setting it up so that the players are driving the content bit how does that work with 16 players. I think he mentioned 80/20 npc/PC ratio but I was rushing through this thread at the same time as listening. It's easy for players to drive the economy if there is a crafting system. Like, I really wanted to sign up to tell you that :) Do you have a DA page or something you can PM me?

Anyways, thanks again and happy to meet everyone. Now to add to this SC discussion:

I dropped a little over $2000 in SC so far. My personal view is that I want SC to succeed, but I don't want people to be taken advantage of if that is really the case. What eventually sold me was seeing the multicrew demo since it seemed like a 'proof of concept' that what they wanted to do (CIG) was possible. I picked up the Armada pack eventually, though I did not actually back SC until around October of last year since I thought it was a scam with how little information and how much Chris was promising.

As for Derek Smart, yes, I made a joke about him in the Discord chat but I like humor. Thats also why I thought the Starfleet Dental thing was funny. But as for Derek Smart, I believe everyone is inherently good. With that said, I also believe Derek Smart is a good person and that he's probably someone who I could call a friend. But I don't agree with his views and also don't really agree with his methods. I understand he feels the need to defend accusations made against him (as anyone would) but I just don't feel there always needs to be a winner when it comes to an argument. There is always a way for everyone to be a winner and always more than one solution to a problem.

As for Chris/Sandi...once again, I don't believe they are intending to do harm but its hard to tell. I don't know them, as I don't know Derek, but I think Chris' vision is too massive. One the main things I always try to do is to keep things simple. Off the bat, just by looking over what Chris wants to do, its quite the opposite.

Overall, if SC fails it will be a shame. Not because of the game not being made, but simply because a lot of people are going to be hurt. The backers, developers, everyone. Personally, I'm going to laugh if only because of the folly and how ludicrous it is that I spent $2000 on jpeg ships. I don't know. Well If everything we've heard about Sandi is true he's probably worried she'll eat his heart. :ohdear: or something equally sinister.

The video stated that all related software/drivers were discontinued, and required a lot of manual configuration - the mouse manufacturer's web page has been down for years

From a person who bolts his Microsoft abortion to a mousepad to prevent it from slipping on his desk, this probably means hours of scouring 3d graphics forums for dropbox links to last stable firmwares, then a lot of autohotkey or joy2key work or something to map the axes to DInput/Xinput

Also it would probably break on updating Windows, and you'd probably face issues like having to reinstall drivers every time you pull the usb contacts

Apart from that - if you get a working setup it should be possible to have it mapped to anything you'd want it to. I guess you could contact the Youtube dude to get details of his setup

I find the idea of a thumbstick on a mouse pretty cool and will check out alternatives if any exist

I won't be mad, but it will make an entertaining story and an interesting lesson.

I know you've probably made your mind up about it, but seriously man, get a refund (if it's still possible) or liquidate on Reddit. The current trajectory of the game is that hardly any of the flowery proposals for the PU will be implemented if the PU even greatly expands at all beyond what it is. As this year ends it will be harder if not impossible to break even, and I believe there will come a day where people will be trying to get rid of their ships for less than CIG is selling them.

A majority of goons have very strong opinions about SC, but at least look at it from a common-sense approach: you may say that $2000 is pocket change for you or that you already budgeted it as entertainment money as so many people do, but just consider that even if the game does come out to glorious praise, all $2000 of those purchases can be earned for free in-game if you still really wanted to play it. Seriously, $2000 is a retarded amount to spend on any game, but it's not too late to come back from the edge. I was once like you, I eventually knew that backing this game was a stupid decision given CIG's current track record, and yet I sat on my package because I told myself it's money that I am not necessarily missing and I am too lazy to give a poo poo. But that's a foolish way to think, because it's still possible to get your money back so why not get it back? I eventually got all my money back and a clear conscious. Please, for the sake of all that is reasonable, get your $2000 back and if you really like the game just get the cheapest package possible and simply steal the big ships you used to own.

If anything, just ask yourself honestly, have you gotten or do you see yourself getting $2000 of enjoyment out of this game, after seeing the progress that has been made through an impartial, non-hyped filter? You don't need to tell yourself "yes" just to feel less guilty, just get a refund brother and don't bear that guilt at all!

I've encountered them in EVE online during a war between alliances, but otherwise I generally always spoke up for them. Bottom line is, I've always held respect for goons and SA. I really enjoyed watching Shmorky's animated cartoons, dog articles, D&D articles, etc. I have a friend who currently posts in BYOB quite frequently, so yeah. Nice to meet you too!

I see this sentiment a lot but I have to ask: who ultimately is responsible for success or failure of the project? and do you think that person(s) has any accountability to the backers who took on the financial risk for this?

Forget your personal response whether you laugh or cry. If the project fails to deliver on its sales pitch should anyone be held accountable to their promises made in exchange for money? Should they walk away richer while the backers own the risk of failure?

How are people still saying it doesn't exist? I play it all the time. If Star Citizen as it stands now is all it would ever be, I would still play it all the time. Forever. (But then I still play Dig Dug.)

The guy was obviously loving with us. This post is clearly satire.

yea I got a da page but I don't really update it because I don't often draw a lot of stuff I feel confident enough in to post online lol

It's been at least a couple years because I usually just sketch to myself in my free time. There's some TRO 3145/3150 stuff in there too, but it's really fuckin humbling having anything in the same book as Plog, Iglesias, Scroggins, and White.

Also lmao I can't believe you got banned from the SC discord for not referring to derek smart by a childish nickname. As though speaking like a mature adult and referring to people by their actual names gives them power. fuckin lol

And Derek Smart not only posts but also manages to fit in. :psyduck:

Sorry, nonono. I didn't get banned from the Discord, I got banned from the RSI chat. The discord chat has actually been super nice, everyone there is really talkative. A real good bunch of people.

I know exactly how much the game is progressing. I have a Shotgun account. I suppose if I didn't, I might be more skeptical, but then again I'd still be playing the SC alpha more than I play any other game. It's already the best space combat sim I've ever played. I don't really understand why people still lack optimism.

And yes, Sandi is my friend, and I don't like to hear people talk poo poo about my friends, even my friends who are less than perfect people, which is... let's see... yeah, all of them.

Scamming C-Ro out of a paycheck with minimal work invested while ensuring the project crashes and fails? Almost noble, excepting the source of the paycheck funds.
If that letter pointing how time was wasted on obsessing over the fidelity of shoelaces and having to spend ages team-writing an email to gently explain how heaven and earth can't be moved; then no doubt a reasonable amount of apathy is now driving the quality of the work given Roberts has no experience to effectively judge the results and so you can get away with mistakes.

Unless there is a clear vision that people can work towards and a direction that encourages them to do so, simply reiterating demands over and over again in the hopes that the solution will pop out there eventually forces people to start doing the bare minimum as they know their time isn't appreciated and will likely be changed on a whim.

Don't worry about making fun of DSmart, the worst thing that could happen is for him to stop paying you for trolling outside SA and, lets be frank, he doesn't pay that much.

As for Chris/Sandi, I don't believe they started up this whole thing meaning to do harm. But, as the project grew, they weren't able to manage it properly and, for better or worse, they are now perfectly fine with taking advantage of their customers in order to salvage it. Maybe in their delusional heads they think they'll be able to deliver, but being a delusional idiot is not a very good excuse and the alternative is them being 100% trash.

Who is "she"?

Also that's pretty poor military design, for your ship to only be able to take damage from one angle.

I see this sentiment a lot but I have to ask: who ultimately is responsible for success or failure of the project? and do you think that person(s) has any accountability to the backers who took on the financial risk for this?

Good question, it's definitely something to consider since it sends a message to everyone else who may consider a kickstarter campaign. Ultimately, I think everyone is responsible. I know its a very broad answer, but really...the backers backed the game on their own volition, however they did so under the information presented to them by the developer. The backers are responsible for their decision. But the real question comes down to should the developer be put into a position of accountability and if so, how?

If they tried in good conscience to develop something and failed, how can you hold them accountable? Its quite easy when something is black and white (Ie: they failed to deliver because they bought booze and strippers) but an honest failure due to technical issues, oversights, personality conflicts, etc...I mean, how can you really hold someone accountable?

If anything, the mark of failure of such a scale would be enough punishment, I think. Chris is leading the ship and if ship crashes, its all on the captain. For those below who tried to offer their best but fell short, failure is not the end. But Chris is in charge. If it fails, its on him.

I've been considering that already since thats probably what I would end up doing. Theres a few animal shelters in my area and I would probably give the money to one of them.
