I bought a load of cable clips for £2 and ran the cable along under the edge of my desk top to my rig to keep the wire from dangling. It's easy to unclip when I want to jump around the room shooting robots too.

I don't know what games you're running but I got bad motion sickness until I found and turned off "head bobbing" etc. Those effects are entirely unnecessary in VR and just serve as a vomit inducer. Other than that it was just getting used to it. There are a couple of good anti-fogging solutions out there dependant on what headset you own.

iRacing has a couple of settings to simulate going over kerbs/bumps etc that I had to dial down when I switched to VR. I haven't played any other games but I imagine they do as well.

I mean at the end of the day you should do what feels more comfortable for you, but I'd recommend not giving up on vr after only 4 hours. I spent at least 10 hours in racing games and at least 10 more playing other vr games before I was "settled" and no longer getting queasy

Playseat and a g25. Saving up for an alu-profile rig because the pedal plate on my playseat is non-adjustable and the steep angle of the pedals has given me an RSI in my shins.

Has anyone had issues with hamstring pain from sim racing? For the last month or so it seems that if I drive for any length of time my hamstrings go tight and to the edge of cramping up- and this lasts for hours/up to a day afterwards. Someone on reddit said change my seat, which is just an old Playseat that i've had for years and never caused me issues before now. New seat would mean a new rig though and that's a lot of money to throw at something that I'm not even sure would work.

You're pinching a nerve. Change the seat, it is putting pressure in a spot it ought not to. My pop suffered from this for a while, a new comfy seat will get her done.

I use 4 seats regularly, my office chair, my sim racing chair, my car seat (1hr commute to work) and my work office chair and they all give me the same symptoms to a greater/lesser extent. I think sim racing is worse because my legs are active and under tension more often. I suspect you're right about the nerve thing though- I visited my GP who said it matched the symptoms of a herniated disc which could be pressing on the sciatic nerve

I have the Mclaren gt rim and for the first few days I had an issue where the paddle shifters wouldn't register some downshifts/would double shift occasionally. I was all ready to send it back but then it seem like the rim bedded in or something and the problem went away and since then everythings been flawless so

I think in general we're waiting to see how the new VRS DD offering turns out (I know Matt Malone streams using a beta version of it and all the VRS team guys use it). Fanatec make great pedals and I'll be honest I really like the Mclaren rim- sucks that it doesn't work for everyone though

https://www.fanatec.com/au-en/wheel-bases/csl-elite-wheel-base-officially-licensed-for-ps4-aus.html

for only $99AU more you can get that, which is the V2.5 wheelbase! :D Why do I have no money?! :D

e: or it's the v2.5 motor only? I can't honestly work it out. either way, it's the one I've got and a couple of other goons have it too

The podium shifter module has a hand clutch and two paddles on each side and the shifter paddles all work independently so you can set it up however you like if you prefer one handed shifting or two. It's not exactly cheap though

NtotheTC
Dec 31, 2007

I don't use the dual clutch at the moment for any of the cars I drive regularly so I've not actually tried it out, I'll give it a go tomorrow and see how it works on the podium.

On the macca rim you held one clutch at the max traction/bite point and pulled the other in then drop the second one at the green light so you get instant bite point

Yeah but you have to find the bite point first and hold it there manually instead of being able to just set it.

Edit: Also, it's mostly my right calf. The gas calf.

How are your pedals angled? Its usually down to driving position i.e being too close or too far away from the pedals or having to hold your foot at an unnatural angle

Yup, it also has two mounting holes on either side of the wheelbase for side mounting. the 3 CSW pattern holes are fine for securing it by themselves, but it will need to be secured to a stable platform

The AMS 2 beta has gone out to the people who did their early buy in and videos are starting to go up. It looks like you'd expect as AMS content brought into the Project Cars engine, ie the same basic look but shiner and more polished. They've also put out the list of content currently in the beta, and its interesting how some stuff has been bundled together and reclassed. The MCR 2000 which was one of my favourite cars in AMS1 is now in a P4 class with a new Metalmoro for example. It'll be interesting to see what gets added over the beta month since there's some pretty big stuff that's not there right now like the Copa Petrobras touring cars.

Also they're going to be adding a pack of 90s DTM cars :woop:

How's the vr support? Pcars2 was pretty bad with it afaik

the V3s are really good, I like mine a lot. the performance kit is a bit tricky to install at first just because of attaching/detatching the rumble motor (it takes a bit of strength to avoid pinching the cable) but once you're used to it it's worth playing around with them and working out what what sort of brake pedal feel you like. Mine is super stiff, but its mounted to my rig so movement isn't an issue

Basshakers are a super fun addition to a sim rig, and pretty inexpensive if you don't mind a tiny amount of DIY mounting. I have 2 dayton audio shakers and a 2 channel amp with simhub that cost me $80 or so and it adds so much to the immersion factor.

Started iracing without simhub running the other day and it was like eating food when you've lost your sense of taste

E; although I should add step 1) is "ideally live in a detached house and have your simrig on the ground floor or make sure you have VERY tolerant neighbours/family"

Enjoy racing, just wish I was better. In the never ending quest to spend more money to not really get any better, the two things I want to add are force feedback pedals and something like the ButtKicker Simulation Kit (https://thebuttkicker.com/bk-sk/) or Gamer2.

Is getting good transduced sound as easy as buying one of the ButtKicker kits and reading the instructions? Or would I be better off buy pieces a la carte, so to speak?

Doing a little reading--going the DIY route, I'm soldering an Arduino, right? Is mixing Dayton speakers with ButtKicker stuff a thing?

The pedals--it seems if I want force feedback it is the Fanatec ClubSport V3's? With the Brake Dampening Kit?

I didn't need to use an arduino at all, I got:

Amp: https://www.parts-express.com/tpa3116d2-2x50w-class-d-stereo-amplifier-board-with-volume-control--320-699
2x shakers: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-bst-1-high-power-pro-tactile-bass-shaker-50-watts--295-244

I built a little enclosure for the amp so it was easier to attach things, and you'll need a 24V powersupply that you don't mind chopping the end off so you can wire it in
