Things to fill in for 'Cult Classics' for SMS in my opinion, in alphabetical order: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World Astro Warrior (play this with the Sports pad!) Golden Axe Warrior Penguin Land Snail Maze Game There's probably a few Non-US games that could perhaps replace a few things on this list, but I cannot speak to them.

There was already a Wonder Boy game on the list, hence ignoring the other. But sure Power Strike 1/2 could replace Astro Warrior, except each of those are 3 figures and Astro Warrior is cheap. You pretty much have to have at least one Alex Kidd game on a recommended SMS list though- intentionally did Shinobi World as it's less frequently referred to (and unfortunately much more expensive). Another thing that sorta fits the list but is non exclusive is Ghouls n Ghosts- the SMS port is sort of the arcade/genesis game but with new elements not found elsewhere - shops with weapon upgrades to sustain more than two hits on your suit.

What's a modchip to look at for the PlayStation (not psOne)? I'd imagine it may depend on its revision perhaps? To burn CDs of course, if it bypasses some region lock then perhaps that's cool too, but not primary reason.

So I decided to go through some of my video game hording clutter and an currently testing a few dozen N64 carts that I'd never touched before. Dear lord this thing has the least appealing graphics/graphical style. The only game I'd ever played on here was Zelda OOT and I remember really enjoying it, I'm almost afraid to put it in again now. Did the Gamecube re-release disc improve on anything or is it just an emulated N64?

Anyone know much info about Neo Geo cabinets? I see one available locally-ish for a reasonable price, it appears to be the one that takes 4 carts. It has a 150 in one multicart in one which sounds sane. My weird requirement would be to keep it Neo Geo but attempt to easily flip over to something Jamma-ish, perhaps exclusively to play Burger Time on (emulated I guess). I see that there are Neo Geo / Jamma adaptors in both directions, anyone know if you can more or less hook up both at once and switch between with a swtich? I already have two arcade cabs and cant possibly have more, so I'd purge one (Karate Champ) for this one (which will go along side Star Wars [vector]).

I guess that's not that bad, I'm just tight on space in that rolling the cabinet out far enough to do that would be a chore and would greatly reduce its usefulness. It seems that MVS and Jamma pinouts are really really similar, maybe I do something weird like get a 2-to-1 jamma adaptor (they seem to exist), wire the OUT of that adaptor to be MVS, wire one IN to be MVS, leave the other at Jamma. Seems ugly but I guess it would work? Sounds like a bit of a mess though.

fastbilly1 posted:Those 2 to 1 adapters are sketchy to begin with and are even more so converters in the mix. I had one work fine in one of my four slots for years, and not work at all in the other. You have a good deal of space in a 4 slot, so swapping out the the MVS and a jamma board with converter should not be that big of a deal. Unless you have a weird conversion cab. Also got a picture of the multi cart, it's a yellow 'Multigame 100 in 1 series 1' so perhaps just an older version of what currently is out there (150 or 161). Really not a huge deal, its a legit board so I'd happily replace the cart. The main thing is the pics show what looks like a really nice 25" CRT.

Just remember most of those cheap X to 1 adapters are spotty. If you want one that will always work: Regardless, next cabinet I get will be JAMMA and that will definitely be useful. I kept seeing the 'should work' one in searches, so its good to know the 'will work' one exists. Also having a wireless remote on the 'should work' one is really dumb IMO.

Saoshyant posted:I may have finally done something more stupid than any of my other dumb retro purchases: I bought an AES Neo Geo. I've been wanting a consolized MVS for a couple of years now, but the actual thing basically costed way less than an Omega MVS so I figured it was a smart move. It probably wasn't. There are many cheap 161-ish in 1 MVS Multicarts for $75 or so, perhaps one of those + that excessively expensive MagicKey? Or can one just h4xx one of those carts to work on AES directly? Edit: this page lists some comparisons from multicarts, and says a few of them work in AES. Main thing is save ram, it's not built in to the console (except the Duo). It's super nice to have because without it games give you a code to enter and sometimes it's just insane to type. However the booster itsself, like all other tg16, is quite expensive.

Cover art? They made it look like gameplay in Popeye and Q Bert were on par with Dragon's Lair. Speaking of NES's pixel art though, are those pixel perfect versions of games or are they also cheating a bit?

Who knows their arcade cabinet fu? Considering buying another cabinet after I let another Neo Geo MVS slip away. This one is clean, but I don't think it was the original cabinet (which shouldve been "MVS-2-25"). I think I may have mentioned another one in here last month that got away, so checking on this one now. Anyway, the board looks proper (MV-2F). Attempting to determine if the cabinet itsself is JAMMA or MVS native. The last two pics of the guts each show some type of un-connected connector. In an ideal world I'd leave the MVS board in, then do some switcher to a JAMMA board. I think it's accessible from the front based on some of the photos (control panel folds out?)

Also there are literally 1million USB power adaptors that exist for every one DS charger. Or more. But most importantly, the motherboard specs (linked a few pages back) show that it's just an off the shelf Linux/Android/CPU thing, and those pretty much always just run on USB power. Hell it probably works with the usb port on the back of your TV.
