Should I vote early on my day off or take an hour off work to do it Tuesday... This is a fantastically privileged position to be in.

Harrow posted:Yeah, that's the other caveat I forgot. If there somehow actually is fire to go with the smoke for once in Clinton's life, then she could probably be impeached successfully, though to be fair, if she really did do something Watergate-level illegal, she should be. And, on top of that, she'd probably follow Nixon's example and resign if she got caught doing something actually, legitimately bad, so we'd hopefully be spared the impeachment trial altogether. In the very least we can rest assured that we're electing the most thoroughly vetted president in American history. There's nothing shocking left to learn about HRC.

It's fun to think about how other candidates would be doing now but we were gifted an unflappable female candidate to oppose a gross misogynist and sexual predator. People talk about optics but this is the sort of match-up you only get when planets align. I voted for Sanders but I absolutely get why many people consider HRC the perfect candidate for this weirdass election.

Sanders would squeak out a victory against Trump, down-ballot would suffer more than it already is, we get 4 years of deadlock before the GOPe runs a Rubio or Kasich or anyone who isn't a rapist and Sanders would lose without a wide network of party support.

I don't stand behind HuffPo as an outlet but tying Trump to Trump voters, especially those that feigned at taking "principled stands" in the past and came crawling back, needs to become a regular part of political discourse going forward. Because they're going to try to dump him like hot garbage.

Imagine what a powerful tool Wikileaks would have been for the right if they played it cool and didn't out themselves as partisans. Release a Trump tidbit here and there that gets okay'd by Trump and Putin as something that'll never matter while reserving the biting stuff for HRC. They keep their air of legitimacy and preserve whatever modicum of goodwill they still had from left-leaning people not in on the joke. Though they're even failing at that last bit. Has Wikileaks done anything but flail around like a wet noodle this whole election?

Indiana voters will be asked the very important question "Should hunting and fishing rights be enshrined in the state constitution?" this year. There are currently no challenges against hunting or fishing in the state. Indiana GOP want to add it to the constitution "just cuz". I think most of us are on board with the fact that HRC is going to win next week, probably comfortably. We probably won't retake the senate but we're expecting that. What I don't think we're prepared for - what our blood pressure isn't prepared for - is the media continuing its campaign against Clinton throughout her first term and likely her second, if she gets one. They're going to lend legitimacy to every petty impeachment attempt and every hearing on emailghazi. They've tasted blood and I see no reason for them to stop just because she won. The only difference will be no Trump, so she gets 100% of their focus.

Bloops Crusts posted:Evan Bayh is now polling underwater in Indiana. GOP chances of keeping the Senate up considerably if he loses. Yeah I really hope he's not necessary to retake the senate - if so all hope is lost. I really don't understand what his appeal was supposed to be. Like, he's a dem (albeit a lovely one) and will vote the party line, that's enough for me, but to your average Indiana voter he's a sleazy lobbyist who follows the money and spent his last year in the senate exclusively job hunting. Like I hate that his Republican opponent is zeroing in on that line of criticism and is 100% correct in his assessment.

Bloops Crusts posted:He's a former Indiana governor and senator. A popular one, too. Methinks that was the appeal. I mean even Mike Pence was once popular enough to be our governor - is there data on how much goodwill there was left for Bayh after he hosed off? Good luck with your volunteering, I hope it goes well and selling Bayh to undecided voters in Indiana isn't the Sisyphean task I imagine it to be.
