I can do an aux battery setup to run it, but I need something in the 150-200W range. Right now all I've got is a thermosiphon coolant heater that takes 120v mains and can use that at home but at work I got nothing.

Cursory search would indicate your only real options here would be running your current block heater off of an inverter powered by a gang of deep-cycle batteries, buying a gas-powered generator to accomplish the same or installing a fuel-operated coolant heater ($$$.)

Probably be more cost effective to just leave the engine idling when you know its going to be cold enough to be a problem.

Yeah, just finished a clutch replacement so I had to - the halfshaft can't come out of the transmission unless you pop the ball joint out so the spindle can be pulled aside giving the shaft clearance.

I have no idea what happened - you can't get the pinch bolt in unless the peg is fully seated in the spindle, and then the bolt is supposed to keep the peg seated. When I came around the side of the car I was expecting to find the peg sheared off, but no - its fine. Had my wife bring me my floor jack and a few other hand tools, got the peg reseated while waiting for my father-in-law to show up with his flatbed trailer so we could drag it home without causing further damage.

I was really pissed initially but happening this way was much preferable to the wheel going sideways at highway speed - the car would probably be written off if that happened.

How the gently caress can a doctor not accept insurance.....??

Your insurance will pay them but what is covered and at what percentage depends on if the doctor is in network (basically means they've negotiated to accept lower payments per service under the assumption that being "in network" will drive in more patients) or out of network.

Out of network usually means substantially higher out of pocket costs and/or some things not being covered and/or your insurance not directly reimbursing the provider (so you'd pay up front and wait 90 days for a reimbursement check.) What "not accepting new insurance" often means is the practice isn't going to join your insurance company's network. You'll often see this with older doctors nearing retirement who don't want an influx of new patients as a result of suddenly being "in network" with a large insurer.

Update on my wife's car getting rear-ended - stayed home from work today because I have the predictable sore back the day after being in a rear-end collision. Couldn't get the at-fault driver's information from the police department's records person until 2:30 this afternoon, then called the insurance company (Erie Insurance, I think they're regional to NY/PA/OH) and got run around from around 3 PM until just after 5. The adjuster assigned to the claim never called me back after I left her a voicemail, and then I spent the next two hours calling, being placed on hold and eventually getting a voicemail box for the person they transferred me to. Finally spoke to a non-receptionist just after 5 who told me the claim is "on hold" until they speak with their insured, who did not return a call placed today.

Meanwhile I'm stuck with a car that's just over the "not" side of the "is it roadworthy" line, another that inexplicably disabled itself and I'm going to rent a car on my own dime and hope they reimburse me later.

Erie is the other party's insurer. My insurer (Progressive) told me verbatim they will open a claim but only if I agree to pay my collision deductible first and they might be able to reimburse me later "if the other party is determined to be at fault."

I'd prefer to avoid paying anything up front if I can help it, especially if "maybe" is in the description regarding me being reimbursed.

Serious question to the auto insurance professionals here: can their insured just blow them off indefinitely or is there a point where they'll say "OK, this person is obviously avoiding talking to us for a reason"? I asked the (unassigned to my claim and therefore unable to really answer my questions) adjuster I spoke with this afternoon if their insured stonewalled them long enough if the claim would just be closed and me left holding the bag and I got a bunch of redirection - "oh, she already opened a claim for her damages so I'm sure she'll call us" and "we're very persistent about getting their side of the story" - without my question being answered.

Insurance fuckery update: still getting run around by the at-fault party's insurance. Spoke with a supervisor earlier today, he was supposed to call me back by 2 and never did. Its awfully convenient that they can't ever get in contact with their policyholders who get into at-fault accidents. I fully expect them to take the entire 21 days allowed under state law to "contact" the at-fault driver.

Got a copy of the police report in the mail today (from a law firm sending me a mailer), the officer noted that the driver was distracted by texting or sending emails - which probably means she admitted to it.

That along with the citation should be more than enough to put who was at fault to rest, but at this point it wouldn't surprise me if they decline liability because the at-fault driver tells them I was driving in reverse, my car just materialized out of thin air or that she wasn't anywhere near the accident site that day and just coincidentally has matching damage to her vehicle.
