Nice, I have been following this on and off for a while, no idea the Beta was so close.

Did they explain how are they going to avoid the "all heavies, all the time" problem? Tonnage limits? Gotta go fast missions? Credit crunch?

Newbie questions. I've skimmed the last 5 pages and the OP, apologies if it's already answered.

- Does the game reward specialising your mechs in brawl/medium/long range/indirect fire? Should I go hard on optimising ASAP, or is it better to have several options in the same mech?
- Is there any kind of time limit or can I do as many non-plot contracts as I want?
- Speaking of contracts, how does the savage negotiation slider works? I think that if I settle in X/Y, is X the number of picks and Y is the number of random poo poo I get, but I'm not sure.
- Do I have to pay for Ammo once installed?
- Does my lance weight matter at all? Heavier=Better or should I keep some lights around.
- Any online mechlab I can use to tinker with my designs without having to buy stuff from the store first?

Back armour only encourages cowardice. :colbert:

Also, how do Called Shots work? You hit, roll for location called and in case it fails just hit randomly?

How can I see how much heat will a mech dissipate per turn? Only the amount of heatsinks it carriesx3?

When do I get the better ship so I don't spend 30 days pimping out a cent with LRMs?

I got the game when it launched but had quite a lot performance problems, and the forced animations made the game too slow for me. This was before they released the first patch, but I got distracted by something or other and didn't come back to the game. With the release of the DLC, I'm wondering what changes have been made since launch.

Not really interested in the DLC itself, it seems it's more or less independent of the base game and I want to do a story run first.

Is there any online tool that lets me tinker with mech builds instead of being limited to what I currently have in Mechbay?

A friend gifted me Flashpoint for Christmas. Having not played in forever, as a person who vastly prefers the "early game" where its mostly mediums and some lights with the sprinkling of heavies and a rare oh-poo poo assault. Is there any mods that would be good for helping draw this period out? I saw career mode had settings for number of parts for salvage and mechwarrior XP gain, these are cool and I might fiddle with them (Wish it said how much the mechwarrior XP reduction was). However, will the contracts be an issue or is it just a matter of staying in the lower-skull/difficulty regions?

Speaking of which, is there any mod/json edit that disables the countdown in the campaign? I know that:
  • The score has no meaning
  • The campaign doesn't end when you hit the deadline
  • The score has no meaning
  • It's a single player game
  • The score has no meaning.
but my broken brain still sees the countdown and worries about it.

I’m doing a second run of the game, and after going max firepower on my first, I’ve discovered that jumpjets break the game in half.

Hanging around a mountain and facing only one or two enemies, while jumping around like kids on a sugar high is fun as hell.

Just played Panzyr and the turrets gave me a free Dragon. Which is great until I look at what the Dragon actually is. Is there a way to savage this thing? I'm already packing a Centurion, a Hunchback, Wolverine and Shadowhawk.

"So, Darius, tell me what happened"

"The contract was going great, our mechs advanced on the three beacon positions swatting away tanks like flies, set them up and spotted for the artillery strike on the base. Then, with no enemies on the field, they took a leisure stroll towards the LZ, but because they were taking too long I told Sumire to pick them up RIGHT NOW and called the client to tell her that the mission was a failure. Don't be too hard on them, though, they did as best as we could. We even got partial payment!"

Any good LP’s of the game? I’m going to spend the weekend away from my computer and need my fix. I’ve been watching SB’s, but I’m up to date.

In broad strokes, what does it change besides "more stuff to cram into your mechs"? I'm close to finishing the campaign and was thinking about using it to Career mode.

For instance if you take a "a lance of pilots has challenged you to a duel" contract, the reinforcements will always be four LRM boats and they will focus down one mech HARD

Thanks for the responses. I stepped back and kind of rethought how I'm approaching the game in general. Part of the problem is that I"m used to extremely spare hex maps with little in the way of cover or elevation, and in my eagerness to use both I'm getting my mechs way too spread out and probably engaging at way, way too long a range. I'm also doing a lot more baiting and ducking in and out of sensor range and generally playing more intelligently, and it's going much better this time. It's not the game, it's me...
Once I discovered the joy of jump jets the difficulty went out of the window. Extra dodge pips help, but the AI is completely incapable of catching up and you can usually isolate a single robbit and pound it with most of your lance. You can make almost every engagement a running battle where you keep mostly out of reach, duck behind mountains, etc...

edit: this will guarantee that a random annihilator shows up on a 2.5 skull mission when you've set salvage to minimum because you don't care about yet more medium mech parts. ask me how I know.
Speaking of which, what are your usual settings for money/savage? I'm 10 missions in and I have literally guessed wrong (i.e. whether the enemy will be mech or tanks) 100% of the time.

I've been feeling the itch of big stompy robbits lately. I've played most of the campaign on launch and one career at some point, so I feel I'm ready to get some mods in. Checking the last few pages, this caught my attention:

IT REQUIRES A NEW DOWNLOADER!

Might be something for a player who want's a bit more than BTX but is scared by all the bullshit that BTA 3062 has. (I'm looking at you, LAMs and BAs...)

Is this OK if I want more variety in mechs and missions but not entire new mechanics or weird troop types? Any other suggestions?
