Are there any build planners (or even an updated wiki) to show all the new weapon trees? I had a lovely Blood/Fist build in TSW that could faceroll Tokyo and picked that combination for my SWL character, but I have no idea if the build could be recreated or not. It looks like there's a higher-tier weapon tree you unlock by getting the "capstone" buff from your current tree... is there a way to view it? The only button I saw that looked relevant just brought up an explanatory video when I clicked on it.

e: Is slotting passives from other trees no longer a thing or is it just impractical due to SP gain rates?

The tanking guide thread over on the SWL subreddit might be useful for what you should be aiming for in order to tank group content.

For solo content, I think you can just faceroll 5-point abilities as long as you keep upgrading your gear. However, I'm just now starting Savage Coast, so maybe that changes.

You can get a 3-pip standard weapon with a good suffix (efficiency if you have an elite you want to use all the time, energy if not) for about 900-1000 MoF on the Auction House. You can get that from finishing a couple of the daily objectives on the Shift+J list.

Beelining straight for the sprint upgrades with your MoF is the opposite of suboptimal play. The "free" maximum sprint upgrade you could get in TSW for buying the motorcycle was completely game-changing. The few points of attack power that you delay* getting by waiting to spend MoF on 3-pip gear are far overshadowed by the ability to zip around the map quickly and outrun enemies that you don't want to bother with.

*And you'll be caught up well before Transylvania or Tokyo, so that's a non-argument.

Here's an early Pistol/Shotgun solo build from another forum that commenters seemed to like.

Active Pistol (4-1-5, 95 AP):
Seeking Bullet (B), Unload, Full House, Bullet Ballet (E)

Active Shotgun (0-1-1, 10 AP):
Reconstituting Shells, Rocket Pod (+passive)

Passive Pistol (0-0-0-4-0, 40 SP):
Second Wind, Beginner's Luck, Flechette Rounds

Passive Shotgun (0-0-2-2-0, 35 SP):
Reinforced Rockets, Odds & Evens

Once you have that, you can use it while you work towards a slightly more expensive version of the build.

Active Pistol (4-2-5, +10 AP):
Full House -> Clean Slate (+passive)

Active Shotgun (0-0-4, +30 AP):
Reconstituting Shells -> CQC (+passive)

Passive Pistol (0-4-0-2-0, +35 SP):
Second Wind -> Rehabilitation
Flechette Rounds -> (shotgun)

Passive Shotgun (0-0-7-0-6, +130 SP):
Odds & Evens -> Fatal Funnel
(pistol) -> Combat Reload

As a Dragon player still slogging* through Orochi tower, this sounds hilarious and I look forward to seeing it. I hope DK randomly calls you and tells you to do things similar to the moonwalking and whatnot in the bank heist mission. For best effect, you should get a timer status effect in which to complete the command, even if you're in combat at the time. Then if you complete the command, you get a stacking status effect called "good quantum". If you don't complete it, you get "bad quantum" and you can have both at the same time. The status effects should have an indeterminable mechanical influence upon gameplay and one dev should leak that it doesn't actually do anything while another leaks that it actually does.

* Can't say I entirely like the change from TSW for the tower climb. Completionists might prefer clearing all eight divisions in one go, but three was more than enough for me.

Yeah, I just recently discovered the difference between pips. Sometimes the funkier ones have less pips than the generic pip ones, any advice on that? So far I've follow the advice of combining into a 3 pip, but sometimes I think the two pip had better suffixes. Any advice on that?

I just recently combined two hammer superiors to an epic, but I kept the 1 pip because I like what the hammer did. I'm not really sure if there's a specific hammer I should be aiming towards if I want to use Fist/Hammer.

I've also been carelessly spending ap/sp on skills that I never used (like AK and Blades) just because I have the superior weapons in my inventory.

Obviously, I am a bad player.

For talismans (non-weapons), a "plain" 3-pip version of the gear is always better than a rare 2-pip version. For weapons, the issue is considerably muddier, because the ability of a rare weapon often makes changes to the mechanics of the weapon.

That said, as a casual player who just wants to solo the storyline, the non-elite regions of the maps, and some of the dungeons, you can do that just fine with plain 3-pip gear that's mostly purple with a few blues.

How do I know? Because that's how I've beaten the storyline, including the new zone, and I am a terrible player. My build even does bad DPS in favor of ignoring Blood's damage-amplification mechanic (by slotting the base passive), being able to outheal most damage, and having two interrupts.

If you're looking for specific advice, power up the crap you have equipped until it gets to maxed-out blue, then spend MoF* on a 3-pip rare version of the gear that has an extra ability that seems useful. For weapons, I prefer the Alacrity suffix, because it makes it much easier to avoid boss mechanics and run away from NPCs when your sprint is disabled. Carry it with you and power it up until you max out blue, then use your currently-equipped gear to make the new gear purple. If you've already got purple, power up new weapons until they match the level of the old gear and power up new talismans until their stat bonuses equal or exceed the old gear.

* As noted above, for the gear you want that sells on the AH for a really high price, check to see if buying the cheapest 1 or 2-pip version and converting MoF to 2500 aurum for the cash shop upgrader would cost less. Or maybe you're cool with buying the cash shop currency with real money, instead of lighting $100 bills on fire in front of homeless orphans. Or whatever else it is you spend your entertainment budget on, you monster.

If the only thing you're in for is the current new content, I doubt it. You won't be able to gear up enough by zipping through the storyline alone. If you're cool with revisiting the game enough to do all/most of the missions in each zone, then you should be fine on gear.

There's not really a learning curve involved in transitioning from TSW to SWL. If anything, it's the opposite.

Don't think I've ever had a week-long doublepost before.

Anyway, I'm aiming to kill the two Kingsmouth summoned bosses and the super version of the summoned jinn in Scorched Desert. They all drop lore. I have the items needed to do the KM summons (SD one just needs to clear several mobs in a small amount of time), but I've never done any of them before. As I understand it, they're pretty strong mobs that you want a full level-50 party for and the draug boss in Kingsmouth requires five people to do the summon.

If there's four other goons who still play this thing and want the lore, let's try for this weekend. I can be available whenever would work best for everyone else; my only RL responsibilities right now are packing up house to move at the end of the month and job-hunting.
