I'm frankly kind of shocked I haven't heard of any other studio or scammer has tried to pull a mini-Star-Citizen scam by making wild claims about a Wing Commander level franchise being revived as an MMO or something. The idea that people will willingly throw thousands of dollars at JPEGS of spaceships just to stave off the feeling that the game isn't real has to be extremely tempting to skeevier game dev guys.

I mean...the guy spent the last 10-15 years laundering Russian mob money through his real estate to the point that an entire floor of Trump Tower was being used as an illegal Russian high stakes casino, then careened around the country on a shoestring campaign that ended up with PAUL MANAFORT managing it for free for months on end and running into stuff like Don Jr and a bunch of senior staff attending a meeting set up by an email that said "THIS IS PART OF THE RUSSIAN OPERATION TO HELP YOU, DONALD J TRUMP, GET ELECTED", he wins because Hillary is insanely bad and installs all the same cronies who are in on this stuff... ...and then after all that, he let Fox News convince him over his own life experience, memory, and maybe even a friend or two who doesn't actually live in his swiss cheese brain world that he's totally innocent, fires Comey (who wrote the goddamn BUTTER EMAILS letter) and sets off a special counsel investigation into said finances and campaign. .........and, still not satisfied with this absolute Beethoven-esque performance of stupidity, struts up to Lester Holt and says "yeah I fired Comey over Russia, what?" That's artistry. That's just pure passion for the game. And my man still has time to say poo poo like "maybe movies need a rating system" and "I would totally take down a school shooter with my kung fu" to satisfy audiences who are too uncultured to appreciate the real heavy stuff.
