Admittedly Star Wars TV is going to the dried up Tatooine well too often. I'd be fine with Boba expanding to inter-system crime lording the very near future (Hi I run a cartel, but a cool cartel based on respect not like Crimson Dawn which is based on cutting out tongues) and making the Obi-Wan show the last Tatooine thing they do for quite awhile.

I was fine handwaving the water fruit being around as an element of why having a moisture farm in the area made sense. I just assumed they were pulling it out of the atmosphere, and there's probably wookiepedia stuff to back that up, but it added up fine in my head. Maybe the water fruits help produce more moisture in the air in the area, I'd buy that.

Also, it takes a lot of water (or water-adjacent products, such as delicious blue milk) to support any kind of population, so it doesn't really bother me that there's at least a few methods of finding water in the desert. It also nicely explains how the Tuskens can live at all and survive off the land with how they seem to not really use any technology.

Also, I got the sense the kid knew where to look. Not that you can dig a shallow hole anywhere and get some fruit.

There could be lots of reasons why trains still make sense versus flying ships but what I was curious about during the episode is whether the train's route needs to change a lot. The planet obviously has tons of sand. Does the train change its route as sanddunes shift? Go over them? Are there others who maintain the route with ploughs & earthmovers?

There were a lot of things about the train that were questionable.

Like Boba Fett just rolling up and stealing the speeder bikes. They had to go way out of the way to show the owners were dirt bags so that the narrative isn’t ‘sand person steals moisture farmer’s mode of transportation.’ Was that the same gang we saw in the first episode? Because if so, my complaint doesn’t stand.

You can kinda see the show working backwards starting at "ok, we want to do a Great Train Robbery scene, how do we give Fett and his crew vehicles or animals to keep up? Speeders, great. The ones that look like riding a chopper motorcycle? Yeah, perfect. How can they get a bunch of choppers at one time? Biker gang!"

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:

It was sort of funny to me. Like guys, you know the train passes through here once in a while. Maybe just hide behind the sand dunes. They are literally everywhere. Don't try to shoot back against the train with aimbot snipers on it that are picking you off from 2 miles away while doing 150mph. It will be gone in 10 seconds just chill.

But they keep shooting the bantha(s) and those are too large and slow to get out of the line of fire. Can't let bantha shooting slide.

To be fair, George Lucas is guilty of this himself in TPM.

That doesn't have to be interpreted as something inherent in the species, though. Could just be boasting, like if Qui-Gon had tried to pass off Kraft Macaroni & Cheese as great pasta and Watto went "Ayy, I'm Italian. No amount of mind-tricking is gonna tell me that's pasta. It's possible, but you have to literally assume the text in the script is a lie. Which, again, sure, possible. Or the movie is just telling you the truth, that mind tricks don't work on Toydarians.

I'm just saying that what Watto said is not an ironclad thing if you want leeway to interpret force resistance. "The script" and "the movie" are just other ways of saying Lucas' intent, and if you want to respect that, I get it.

Fun to think about the "rules" of storytelling and how they work in serial stories in an overarching universe like this. If the mayor's identity is supposed to be a mystery, a mystery identity should end up being someone the audience knows from early on in the story. If the audience doesn't have the full list of suspects then they feel cheated out of being able to guess ahead of time or see in hindsight where the clues were. If it's the casino owner then that works whereas other suggestions in this thread are people or groups that haven't been seen or mentioned yet. Except, if it's a shared universe then does being seen or mentioned in any of the other movies or TV shows count? Or, since we know the show will continue past this season can you introduce someone new at the end without it feeling like a weak resolution? Disney/MCU shows so far have arguably done both of those things.

Why was this considered a Boba Fett episode? Like, honestly. It's not like anyone would have minded if Disney went "Boba isn't on this week but here's a special episode of Mando to bridge the gap!"

I loved the detail about the ship not feeling great at low speeds, that it was meant to be flown fast. Made me think of real life vehicles like that.
