Republicans have spent the last decade disenfranchising democratic voters through scuzzy and often outright illegal means. They are not going to play fair in any meaningful way. They go low, we go high by not fighting in a situation like this could give them a senate seat, which could lead to another stolen court seat or who knows what down the lines. It's be great if we lived in a world where they played fair and we could to, but until that happens I'd rather that dog not keep dunking on us while we wring our hands about how it isn't allowed to play basketball.

Your Taint posted:Did they have orders to keep firing right up until a certian time, even while negotiations were going on? That's so strange to me. Negotiations were already done by that point. They had set a specific time (11th hour of the 11th day) as the start of the cease fire, and yeah, people were still expected to fight up until that time. In practice a lot of the soldiers gave the sort of half hearted effort one would expect that soldiers would give, but there are stories of British and Americans going over the top and getting killed the day of. It was horrible.

Bicyclops posted:Clinton flavor of adultery is not actually that common, though. Most adultery is one spouse committing a single instance (or repeated instances with one person), and actually includes a romantic connection and not just a sexual one. Usually marriages move past it, oddly enough. What Clinton did as a President was collect women who felt like they couldn't say "no" as sex partners, because toxic masculinity being what it is, that is a symbol of power in our culture. The Lewinsky thing has more in common with the #metoo movement and it being revealed that every famous or powerful man is a sexmonster than it does with common marital infidelity. While Bill was certainly credibly accused of impropriety and sexpestness for his behavior as Governor, and there is the Epstein crap after, there is no evidence that he 'collected women' as president. Sort of an ackshually post I guess, but it is worth getting the timeline right imho.

Your Taint posted:And what exactly do we have to base that argument on? What past behavior have Dems showed that proved they won't blink here? Previous experience? The dems didn't cave in the 2013 shutdown because the optics of it were republicans shutting down the government in order to get something that they wanted. They did cave in the DACA shutdown, because it was clearly them shutting down the government to get something they wanted. The senate passed a clean CR. The house was willing to pass a clean CR. The only reason the house hasn't, is because Trump says he won't sign it. They have the fucker on camera saying that he will own the shutdown, and every single person knows that it is going to be his fault if it happens. The democrats have literally all the leverage in the world here, what sort of brain damage makes you think that they'd blink? Catalyst-proof posted:Is the TSA going to be furloughed for this shutdown? Right before Christmas travel? TSA is unlikely to shut down. The TSA can be considered essential (particularly at Xmas time) and thus they'd keep on keeping on. That said, the decision seems to be up to the executive branch, and Trump is a fuckin idiot, so who knows.
